@BlackRonin72 Happy New Year! 🥳
@dingemansemark @dahukanna @NeuralEnsemble @kordinglab @Iris @sibrosan There’s a whole thread here, though. I see Dawn’s toot as an interaction with the topic, not with your toot in particular.
@dingemansemark @dahukanna @Iris @kordinglab @sibrosan @NeuralEnsemble Of course. I think we should do both.
@dahukanna @sibrosan @Iris @dingemansemark @NeuralEnsemble @kordinglab I really don’t see that Dawn suggested you did. She just raised a question for all of us in academia.
@Iris @NeuralEnsemble @dingemansemark @dahukanna @sibrosan @kordinglab We shouldn’t, and if we recognize it as machine-generated bullshit we can fail them (and explain how to do better). But what about the cases where we can’t?
Would it not be better to teach students how to improve the output from a machine and learn from that process?
@Iris That is an excellent point and one we should raise with our students. I think many students will try to use chatGPT and similar tools nonetheless, just as they now pay for people to write their essays. For sure, that is an unserious way to pursue their studies but they will do it. Therefore, I would rather that we train them in how to edit an autogenerated text, for instance to include perspectives of marginalized scholars, than just say: No, you can’t do it.
@dingemansemark @HeikoSchuett And I can’t help but wonder what happens down the line when much of the text material that coming generations of chatbots get trained on are written (at least in part) by previous generations of chatbots. The link back to human-generated text will be very weak but what other things will happen to language and style? Either way, we have to train students in how to best use this new tool to understand the process of writing.
@QasimRashid Oh, I love Calvin and Hobbes! Happy New Year, Qasim 💫
@boby_biq And a Happy New Year to you and the boys! All the best to you 💫
@maskedscheduler Again!
@smoke From my own, admittedly limited experience, this makes a ton of sense! I am pretty sure I had Covid in early December this year and I have been getting what feels like new colds in a never-ending loop since then. What I don’t understand is why it doesn’t affect everyone the same? I know several who have had Covid and not felt any different afterwards.
Aah, that special time where you can’t yet tell if it’s the same old cold that continues or a brand new one?? The excitement!
Happy New Year, all! If you’re sick, I hope you get better soon. If you’re not, I hope you maintain your good health. Be kind to each other and take care with the fireworks 💥 🥂🥳
@tajac Wow, looks delicious! Happy New Year 💫
@danishduck I lige måde! 🥂🥳
Det her giver håb for 2023!
