I love this tree because it’s a reminder that you can still live a full life after a disaster:

A moss-covered tree that has fallen but continued growing. The main trunk is horizontal, with a mass of exposed roots at one end. At the other end three branches are growing vertically, each looking like a full tree. In the background are various younger trees, with greenery filling the frame.

@mattgriffin that soundtrack is a powerful spell

Signal (and many other messengers) stores push tokens in their database in plain text. Which allows law enforcement to subpoena them (though signal has never publicly admitted this happening) and then law enforcement uses these push tokens to subpoena apple to get personal information associated with it like your full name, address, phone number etc.

This way Law Enforcement can correlate your personal information with your signal account which means participants in conversations are deanonimzed. (Though content is still encrypted).

If you organize in large signal groups (or any Messaging app using push notifications) there is a high chance law enforcement and intelligence agencies can tell that you're part of a group or not.

I don't understand why nobody is talking about this more. It's extremely problematic.

Apple started publishing stats on how often this happens now. They were gag ordered to not speak about it before but they have changed course (reuters.com/technology/cyberse)

You can find the stats here:

It's really disheartening how much the internet has taken a step back in accessibility for epileptics. 5 years ago, the setting to turn off autoplay on videos in Firefox worked perfectly. Now, it's situational. 5 years ago, on Chrome, I could install extensions to stop autoplay and stop GIFs from animating. Now, none are supported because it's not "best practices". The internet is so much worse for epileptics now when it had been getting so good. It's so depressing.

@mattgriffin I watched the first season, did not continue - they don’t even have the full rights to it IIRC

The show had some hiccups, the last season has been good to really good (still have a couple episodes to watch to complete the season)

Not happy it won’t bring the stories through to the end

Welp, I have just cancelled my Microsoft Office 365 recurring subscription.

Two reasons.

1. I only ever use it to check tracked changes to the copy edits on novels—once a year—which my publishers process in Word. As of this month, LibreOffice is good enough for the job (just tested at book length).

2. CoPilot in Office would open me up to accusations of breach of contract—my book contracts warrant that they're all my own work: CoPilot brings that into question.

So good riddance to Office365!
