Been gradually making progress on updating the texture tools in the editor. There are some other improvements I've worked on over the month but I'll show those later.

You know what's worse than meticulously doing a `git add -p` for 5 minutes, then committing with `git commit -a` ?
Doing it twice in a row.
My integrated terminal setup seems to break every so often, but the new "Reworked 2025" terminal engine seems to play nicely with the latest recommendation from MSYS2.
Passing it the script with the appropriate CLI switches seems to start a working session that integrates with the IDE. ✌️
Finally got around to listing a few more notable projects on my website from the past few years! Proud to see my hands haven't been idle.
But still no blog post... 👉👈
Creating a better day at work for everyone, teaching engineers how to think about workflows, and preventing tools from being built that nobody would use: It all gives me energy.

@mehdi_benadel I do use PowerToys but wasn't able to get super predictable behavior.
I am lifting the CTRL+SPACE hotkey though so thanks for the pointer! I might try Tabby some more in the future.
@mehdi_benadel My current trouble is that it doesn't seem to work predictably with virtual desktops and the global summon (default CTRL+SPACE).
Forcibly switching me back to the virtual desktop I previously summoned it to is not ideal, but tolerable.
However, even when I close it on one and resummon it on another, it may bring me back to a previous desktop that I had previously summoned it on. :(
Looks like there are some pending issues with it on GitHub. I'll try to add more info there!
@mehdi_benadel I was going to initially pass but saw it was cross-platform.
I'm finding it very flexible and got it to mostly behave how I want it to very quickly. Thanks for the rec!
RSS never tracked you.
Email never throttled you.
Blogs never begged for dopamine.
The old web wasn’t perfect.
But it was yours.
Friendship with Windows Terminal on hold; now trying out Cmder!
Quake mode seems to work well and I just figured out the correct CLI switches to pop out new windows (outside of the Quake mode instance) on demand.
My aunt, the doctor,
told me a new joke.
She asked:
How bad
is the new Covid variant?
I replied:
I don’t know, how bad is it?
And she answered:
The new Covid variant
is so bad
that the media
is having to report on it.
And then neither of us laughed.
Washington joins NY, CA, MN, OR, and CO in passing Right to Repair. Together, these six states represent nearly a quarter of the US population.
That means manufacturers can’t treat this like a fringe issue anymore. Repair access is now a national standard.

I use my Steam Deck regularly on long train rides, so I'm very aware of how games can impact its battery life🪫.
I looked into ways to improve the energy efficiency of games and wrote a list of helpful techniques (not just for the Steam Deck): https://www.artstation.com/blogs/haukethiessen/e1npn/developing-games-for-devices-with-batteries

Gifsicle made it pretty painless to resize a GIF to a specific resolution.
I ran the following and got what I expected:
gifsicle --resize 1280x720 -i .\input.gif -o .\output.gif
@yora I wish, but no, haha
It's an option to allow Windows Terminal to appear from the top of the screen, reminiscent of how Quake's Developer Console is summoned.
Turns out Windows Terminal's "Quake mode" is unusable for me since it doesn't play nice with Windows' virtual desktops: https://github.com/microsoft/terminal/issues/16565
I use'em to separate different streams of thought so this is unfortunately a dealbreaker for me 😭 (cute feature though)
i enjoy this flowchart explaining how bash decides whether to use .bashrc or .bash_profile https://blog.flowblok.id.au/2013-02/shell-startup-scripts.html, mostly because it makes me understand better why I could never understand how the 2 config files worked when I used bash
Started using Taiga for project management and I'm digging it so far. The kanban and scrum modules are very usable and customizable.
Going to port over my ad-hoc Markdown task tracking to it and see how it goes!
I work in their Game Programming program, but they're looking for input on Game Art, Design, Production, and Film VFX programs too.
Totally open to anyone in games (or adjacent industries that use game tools) from a variety of positions:
- Engineering Leads
- Hiring Managers
- Recruiters
- Indie Developers
- Other Programmers
AIE doesn't normally open it up like this, so it feels like a good opportunity to refocus its priorities on what's gonna get graduates hired (and remove what doesn't). 👀
