Couch Computing featuring Ruby the Dachshhund and my new @mntmn Pocket Reform ❤️
i've been a bit more quiet here over the last weeks, but there has been tons of activity at MNT. most importantly: @theawesomerandomness has been working tirelessly on building and packaging MNT Reforms and MNT Pocket Reforms (incl. DIY kits), supported in the studio by @liaizon and @BSBB, and the backlog is shrinking.
software is a plot by Big Hardware to get you to buy more computer
We arrived at GPN with @mntmn
On our way to GPN 🚉

(wanted to post this last night, but then mastodon social was down) the MNT Desktop Reform case design is finally done now, incl. lots of mounting options, easily programmable LEDs, power button, secondary (micro)-HDMI, and mousebites to choose between compatibility with USB-C and barrel jack motherboard versions
anyone going to GPN in karlsruhe next week? will be there with @theawesomerandomness
Nintendo Switch 2? Galaxy S25 Edge?
Around here, we're most excited about the MNT Reform laptop that, after much anticipation, just arrived at our doorstep.
Among many repair-friendly features, this laptop uses standardized 18650 batteries, which makes finding replacements incredibly easy. Opening it up to swap them out is easy, too.
Shout out to @mntmn, @theawesomerandomness, @liaizon, @holo_memory, @plom, @bnys, Tina the dog, and everyone else who put together this incredible product!
Wildlife rehabilitation workers have to wrap up sharp-clawed owls during treatment for their own protection as well as the owls’. And then they take pictures for their blog Owls in Towels. https://owlsintowels.org via @metafilter
classic MNT Reform with RK3588 manufacturing is running! (photo and assembly of laptops by @theawesomerandomness)
tried to implement scrolling inertia (so that you can "flick" and don't have to scroll scroll scroll which feels like work) in the reform next trackpad... i think it works out pretty well. this shall be configurable of course
This is not a joke. It’s a look at the future.
I'm currently updating the images and repository on https://reform.debian.net for the upcoming Debian Trixie release. Thanks to the insane generosity of @wickedshell I can now test this on a RK3588 @mntmn MNT Pocket Reform myself. And you know what? It just works. Out of the box. This platform has truly come a long way. It feels very mature and I believe it is a device that I can truly recommend to fellow GNU/Linux users. This not just a machine to tinker. This is a reliable daily driver.
trying out color combos for MNT Desktop Reform (affordable version). the bases are 3D printed and lid is aluminum.
RCORE R-2 (the adapter board for Firefly RK3588 modules for the MNT Reform series) is finally technically done, just some checks and small polishing left for tomorrow. aside from minor bugfixes, a bigger change is the WIFI/BT connector. i exchanged SDIO/UART for PCIe and made that pinout largely compatible with the PCIe port of RPi 5, but with some extra pins for a USB 2 lane. the goal is to be able to support a 3rd M.2 slot in Pocket Reform (2nd in Next) for faster Wi-Fi/BT cards.
@josch yes! You definitely see those :D
