Introvert but willing to discuss #plants and #gardening! Kidding. Sort of. Also love #music (and playing guitar), #baseball, and #travel. #Bisexual. Democratic socialist. Dog dad to two French bulldogs.

Also in good entertainment….and also at my wife’s recommendation, we watched a French indie movie called Portrait of a Lady on Fire (which won an award at the Cannes Film Festival). It’s a romance story, not usually my cup of tea, but it was REALLY good, and #LGBTQ friendly. I think we were watching it on HBO Max (or Max, or whatever they're calling it now, lol). #movies

My wife brought my attention to a song called “Jesus and John Wayne”, a collab effort by Allison Ponthier, Joy Oladokum, and Googly Eyes. It perfectly encapsulates why I walked away (more like ran) from church and mainstream Christianity. https://youtu.be/ocRM4_B2rUU

It also doesn’t help that BlueSky doesn’t have content warnings for politics….only content of a sexual or graphic nature.

Having spent a full year on BlueSky, I don’t recommend it for anyone who wants to talk about anything other than politics. There’s near-zero engagement on anything that isn’t political or current events related. It’s a firehose of angst and anger and anxiety all the time now. I feel like in the Fediverse, people have a healthier relationship with the news and know when to take a step back and put their mental health first.

@gsymon@mastodon.social That’s good to know because the thing that held me back from it was the lack of a Mac OS version that it could sync to.

Decided I really should be more consistent about journaling, probably would be helpful for my #therapy sessions. Anyone have a favorite journal app for #iOS and/or #MacOS?

What did the girl mushroom say to the boy mushroom?

Gee you’re a fun-gi (fun guy) 🤪

@jillL@theblower.au Exactly. I’m not holding my breath

You love to see it. #MeltICE #LosAngeles

Image of a parked I.C.E. SUV in a garage with the back window spray painted "Bitch fuck ICE" and the rear tires slashed. The caption reads "Protestors storm ICE building in Los Angeles, slash SUV tires."

Enjoyed another “after hours happy hour” at work with some super cool co-workers. Really can’t put a price on having co-workers you’d gladly spend time with outside of work.

This weekend’s yard work: ripping out invasive and/or non-native plants and replacing them with natives! Rewarding myself for getting a lot of weeding done with doing the fun part: planting! 🎉

Anyone in U.S. healthcare have recommendations for which vaccines I should get up to date on before RFK just completely pulls the plug on everything? I’m good on COVID and flu. Measles is going around apparently so that’s on my list. No idea what my level of risk is for typhoid, yellow fever, cholera, or Japanese encephalitis...

New favorite genus has to be (among herbaceous plants) salvia. The diversity in colors and sizes and habits is really something else! And the hummingbirds love them 😀

@benpocalypse@mastodon.social Netscape Communicator was so ahead of its time: browser, email client, calendar, WYSIWYG website builder, etc. I still miss it. And all of these were well-designed

I guess it was finally my turn to start getting “Fediverse Chick” spam messages in my DMs. Blocked and reported!

My mom had a visitor the other day while she was in the back yard working in her garden! #Deer #Wildlife

Certainly! The image shows a single **white-tailed deer** standing on a green lawn behind a black, square-mesh fence. The deer has a light brown coat and is facing slightly to the left of the frame. Behind the deer, there's a wooden fence, some green bushes, and a glimpse of a tree trunk. The ground is covered in short, green grass. The focus is primarily on the deer, with the foreground fence slightly out of focus.

Felt I should do something productive this weekend so I got my hand pruners and cut back all the weedy Mulberry seedlings coming up everywhere and tried to remove some American bittersweet vine that was starting to overrun some azaleas that I really enjoy, which also had Virginia creeper sharing the space. I try to leave native plants where they are if they’re not in the way but these were pretty much taking over the azaleas.
