#WomensHistoryMonth fact of the day today Is international women's Day so let's discuss the history of Women's Day. The earliest reported "Woman's Day" was one organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City on February 28, 1909. It wasn't until 1922 in Russia that Vladimir Lenin declared March 8th International Women's Day.

#WomensHistoryMonth fact of the day yesterday I stated that women's History Month originated back in Santa Rosa, California in the 1970's but it goes back even further. March 8th 1857 factory women staged a protest over poor work conditions. The first Women's Day celebration in the United States was set in 1909 and International Women's Day is March 8th.

By 1980 President Jimmy Carter later declared March 2nd to 8th as National Woman's Week. In 1987 president Regan declared March Woman's National History Month.
#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day Ann Lowe was the first notable Black dress designer in America. She designed the dress for Jacqueline Bouvier for her wedding to John F. Kennedy.
#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day Let's talk about Art. Horace Pippin was a black artist whose work depicted an array of different scenes from his life, but his best known works had slavery and racial segregation as their main topics. One of his well known works is "John Brown going to his hanging."
#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day ever needed blood? Thank Black Dr. Charles R. Drew known today as the "father of blood banking." Dr. Drew was the first Black to earn a medical doctorate from Columbia University. He also was the one to discover that plasma stored better than blood and could be used in transfusions. He also set up the first blood banks, The American red cross. He also left the American Red Cross when he learned they planned to segregate white and black blood.
#BlackHistoryMonth fact of yesterday let's talk about another black Inventor today. Walter B. Purvis was a black Inventor and business man who invented the refilling handstamp and improved on the design of the fountain pen.

Still this didn't mean the Roberts failed; as the grassroots integration movement kept going. In 1855 Massachusetts passed a law ending racial Segregation of public schools. 2/2
#BlackHistoryMonth in 1847 at 5 years old Sarah Roberts was the first Black student in an all white Boston school. When her father, Benjamin Roberts Sr. tried to enroll her brother the school expelled Sarah. Benjamin Sr. sued the schools on Sarah's behalf. Ultimately the courts ruled that Boston schools had the right to segregation leading to the precedent of the "separate but equal." 1/2
Yesterday's #BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day. Kendrick Lamar's halftime show isn't the first time a Black Musician's half time show has been controversial politically. Back in 2016 Beyonce's "Formation" performance got a lot of criticism from conservatives for being Anti-police, Anti-American, and Anti-white.

#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day. Feb 9th 1944 the first Black woman to win to have her own television show was jazz musician Ethel Waters. She was the second black American nominated for an academy award and the first Black woman for the Primetime Emmy Award.
I want note that I am aware of controversy concerning Alice Walker and her more recent Antisemitism and support conspiracy theories. I am sharing notable people relating to Black History. I do not believe in those antisemitic conspiracies. 2/2

#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day. Ralph Metcalf Sr. Wasn't just any track and field star, he was a four time Olympic gold medalist. He was a black man who was considered the fastest human alive back in 1934-1935. He then served in the U.S. Army in 1942-45. Not only that he had a degree in political science and became a career politician becoming a house representative in 1971. He also co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus
#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day. The first female Self made millionaire was a Black woman. Madame C.J. Walker made her millions creating a hair care and cosmetics line for Black women. She regularly donated portions of her wealth to the NAACP and was also an activist in her time.
