@ueeu @Blaze ah well.. I saw the update, sent a few messages to close friends that "enough is enough" and that I'm deleting my account for good and then deleted the account..

I feel that drastic measures are necessary.. anyone who no longer keeps in touch with me was never worth it in the first place anyways πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Right now there are a lot of new eyes on Signal, and not all of them are familiar with secure messaging and its nuances. Which means there’s misinfo flying around that might drive people away from Signal and private communications. 1/

@veronica that's the main reason why I use zsh and fake the nerd status by slapping oh-my-zsh on top.. if it was in the last 20 commands, then chances are very high that typing `g` and the up arrow once gets me to the last `git pull` ..

though I respect wanting to press the up key, we all need things to make the time pass in fun ways! I for one enjoy watching progress bars, sometimes placing the mouse cursor on the current position and enjoy how new pixels are added after it

@danil aye.. just like to sprinkle some pop culture into the sad reality every now and then.. the headline made me chuckle for more than one reason

*Excuse me human person, do you happen to know the exact whereabouts of a certain Sarah Connor?*

Newsheadline reading: "To help AIs understand the world, researchers put them in a robot"

(and yes, I have indeed been reading the three books that the show The Three Body Problem is based upon)

Conspiracy Theory: Aliens subtly influenced the development of all involved tech that lead to LLMs, knowing all well that this would a) never lead to AGI and b) eventually lead to massive degradation of knowledge and scientific progress over time once LLMs are widely available to all humans, therefore keeping humans from becoming dangerous before their fleet arrives in a few centuries to conquer the solar system...

@vitaut maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.. you'll only know once you look at it.. though once you looked at it, it stays in that state

@vitaut reaching new lows in shitposting efforts, eh? taking a BW photo of a colorful book and try to pull an easy one on us.. I call fake news πŸ™ƒ

@infobeautiful I fondly remember having a lemon soda drink in an US fast food chain which proudly appeared to declare "100% artificial flavoring"

@veronica @StacktraceSymphony Does that mean we'll now get 20% more characters per toot or 20% less from you??? πŸ€”

@veronica
ok, great.. but the more burning question obviously is: "when will SG-U season 3 finally be announced"???

Last month I took some time off to work on #procjam and like most years I didn't finish what I started; which is fine, since I knew this was going to be kicking an old #proceduralgeneration idea into gear again

There's a lot going on with this city generator. It plots rivers and coastlines, doing a reasonable facsimile of erosion and longshore drift and coastal estuaries

It splits the area into areas that would be representative of city blocks, and ensures that any potential road networks only have to, at their base level, deal with four-way intersections

Now it's taken those city blocks and worked out the actual area they have to work with, based on the rivers and the coasts, and stored whether they're adjacent to a river or a coastline or both

The goal will be to grow the city over time and historical periods, increasing road widths and changing building and transit technologies over time until a reasonable city is generated down to the building floorplans and subway/sewer level.

Debugging, to painfully find the hard to detect problem that the AI tool subtly hallucinated into their code?

@veronica aye, I don't fear ML either.. what I do fear is the group of people that try to push generative AI at all cost.. seeing the harm it has already done on the web, how search does no longer seem to work properly and being flooded with senseless content, I fear that it will make meaningful progress that much harder and might even throw us backwards to some degree.

I do believe Machine Learning can do great things, but science is also a popularity contest to a certain degree, so... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@veronica
had to look up the issue and omfg!!!

when will this fad end? or is this actually the scenario that will ultimately lead to the downfall of our civilization?

some scifi tried to predict it already, currently it feels like we're on a trajectory of a mixture of Terminator (just the "AI" part without the nukes and/or time traveling robots) and Idiocracy (the likely end result of human intelligence because we apparently strive to replace knowledge with LLM hallucinations)

@Patricia cool, cool.. let me know when things change for the good.. current plan is to do like a bear and hibernate for that long winter that is coming.. who knows, maybe 4 years is long enough? πŸ€”

@Patricia it's no secret the US has a seriously flawed democracy.. even wikipedia knows it..
