I love playing with FPGAs. There can never be enough LEDs. Hardware engineer at Nvidia, but my views here are my own. Also @tom_verbeure you know where but I don’t post there anymore.

@dlharmon Do you need the paid Vivado version for that?

@azonenberg @wren6991 I need to try that once I’m up!

@wren6991 My colleague had “mroe” aliased to “more” because he always mistyped it.

This was in the nineties on a SunOS machine, before less became a thing. Which makes me wonder: do the young ones even know why it’s called less?

@joshua @AMS @azonenberg I second checking out the DVB-T specification. It’s surprisingly readable.

@azonenberg For a primer, you could worse than watching this presentation by @joshua.
It’s not in the title, but it’s essentially about how OFDM solves all problems.

@NF6X Make sure you put everything you discover on your blog. One day, it will be somebody’s information treasure!

@NF6X It’s unacceptable that those Ampex guys didn’t put their documentation online.

@dlharmon The Oscilloquartz 8663-XS is still available on eBay for a reasonable price, if you can deal with the 12V.

@dlharmon @tnt @funkylab It’s just so elegant the way the phase noise of the reference oscillator cancels out. Makes me think about “The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Science” paper, but for electronics.

@dlharmon @tnt @funkylab I assume that you’re looking to create something similar in architecture to the aholme project?

@whitequark It’s a few grades beyond serious abuse!

@whitequark It’s remarkable how electronics can survive serious abuse. On one of the first chips I ever worked on, the metal cap on the package was rotate 90 degrees, so I inserted one of the handful of our first samples wrong into the socket. High current, chip was cooking and I was sweating, but it worked just fine after rotating it.

@craigjb Verdi ($$$) can do that. I use it primarily as follows:

- create intfc_fire signal = intfc_vld & intrc_rdy & clk
- create a counter signal that counts the number of rising edges on intfc_fire.

This makes it very easy to find the same transaction in different traces when clock cycles differ.

@G33KatWork The phone number doesn’t do anything on the SFQ. 🙁

@G33KatWork As a teenager, I asked for a subscription to DDJ as my birthday gift. The Michael Abrash articles about the graphics pipeline were fantastic. The ones about C-sharp too. When DDJ closed, I moved on to that new magazine (forgot the name) where he continued his columns about Quake and such.
