Today was movie day in my election integrity class. We deconstructed Pillow Guy and other "stop the steal" videos.
It really struck me how deep a background you need to reliably spot the faulty logic or outright fabrications. The students did fine, but if you're predisposed to believe the elections were rigged, these videos provide easy comfort food.

I remain genuinely and pleasantly shocked that in the course of 10 days or so, we all just went, “no way, eff this, we’re going to @Mastodon”, and now we’re just here and people are so nice and writing alt-text in their images and sharing great stuff and using content warnings and everything. Obviously none of this would have been possible without years of work by #Fediverse / #ActivityHub devs that came before. Even so, this is really something, no? 😃
Also, any serious discussion of election security has to grapple with two simultaneous realities:
- there's no evidence that any US election outcome has ever been altered by hacking
- there are real, exploitable vulnerabilities in many parts of our election infrastructure

Not long ago, you could tweet something critical about Birdsite and you'd probably find more people agreeing with you than not. That's definitely reversed, to the point where anyone saying anything critical about Mu*k or Birdsite gets a bunch of "fuck you/leave/die liberal media/thatswhyyournotabillionairegenius" replies.

Earlier this year, I was invited down to Texas by folk who asked me: "Do you think you could teach our assorted group of blind, low vision, and neurodiverse folk about lockpicking?"

These charming characters are incredibly agile and can jump great distances between trees.
Here I managed to capture one as it appears to be flying down my lens.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.
