transmediale Residencies 2025

The open studio is two days away, and with that, we're introducing our final residency project ✨

During her residency, SunJeong Hwang is developing prototypes incorporating sensor networks, ecological data harvesting, and AI-driven compositional processes. Her project, Telluric Memories, results in a responsive architecture where rhythms are negotiated across human somatics, algorithmic logic, and planetary conditions.

transmediale Residencies 2025

The ultra-reading method by D'Andrade involves a deep and transdisciplinary analysis of social, environmental and political aspects in a mimesis of what they present with the neurosis of reading. Through the use of the anthropophagic word, D'Andrade proposes a form and language to transcreate through a translating process.

Inspired by Luciana Parisi's book Abstract Sex: Philosophy, Biotechnology and the Mutations of Desire, Anan will explore how information technologies and "artificial intelligence" reshape our desires, our sexualities and our understanding of gender.

transmediale Residencies 2025

June is (almost) here, and with it comes the start of the 2025 transmediale residencies! One by one, we’ll be introducing each resident’s project – starting with Assemblague(s) by Andrea Galano Toro.

Assemblague(s) is a research-based project that speculates on vehicles and models of language-in-kinship with more-than-human companions — from microbes to dust, gut ecologies, and the microbial life embedded within technological devices.

The distance between us. On violence, split technology, and Relation.

This talk by Nelly Y. Pinkrah interrogates how bodies, proximities, and technologies inhabit a relational continuum. It probes the dual role of technology – as a tool of control and as an (infra)structure of Relation – and asks us to rethink how we engage with it. What we make of it. How we make it. Pinkrah is later joined by Shaka McGlotten in conversation.

Letters from the Unmodelled

The lecture-performance by Catherine Griffiths examines how public protests have become experimental sites for AI surveillance and skeleton-tracking systems. This is followed by a conversation where Marija Ristic, Anna Engelhardt, and Julian Oliver join Griffiths to explore the shifting relationships between surveillance, public space, and resistance.

Generating an Artificial Democracy: On Sociological Intimacies of Bots and/as Personas

Ranjodh Singh Dhaliwal looks at the technical substrates of chatbots, which make them ripe for the use of 'personas,' a prompt engineering technique that instantiates different 'bots' from the same underlying AI model. Dhaliwal is later joined in conversation by Tiara Roxanne to question notions of agreement/disagreement or proximity/distance for machinic proxies.

As another treat presented by A MAZE. / Berlin, the performance Sons and True Sons by Total Refusal takes place at HAU 👾

The Viennese media guerrilla group examines the links between toxic masculinity, gaming culture and the 2021 US Capitol storming. In a live gaming lecture, they scrutinise the parallels between the video game Tom Clancy's: The Division 2 (2016) and real-life extremist movements – and highlight the dangers of hyper-masculine self-empowerment.

Neema Githere and Juan Pablo García Sossa have been selected to curate transmediale 2026 🤍

Their shared vision builds on perspectives from geographies and epistemologies that have been historically marginalised in dominant digital narratives – articulating them into circuits, protocols, and systems of relation.

We are looking forward to welcoming them to the transmediale community ⚘

Tomorrow, our dear friends of CTM Festival put on a special show at Bi Nuu in Berlin: SUMAC & Moor Mother presenting their new collaborative album The Film.

SUMAC’s crushing sludge, hardcore, and noise unite with Moor Mother’s searing poetics and radical politics to ignite the stage in an unrelenting surge of tectonic heaviness and incisive narratives.

Finnish duo Pharaoh Overlord set the stage with hypnotic krautrock, industrial grind, and synth-laced delirium.
