framework 12 laptop with elementaryOS 🙂

This is such a nice little computer. It’s not super fast, but it has plenty of RAM and storage. The inside is very well designed. I like the idea that I can easily replace individual parts, and all 4 ports are customizable.

I’ve been trying out elementaryOS on my desktop for a while now, and really like how well it works here too

Just finished Final Fantasy 6 for the first time ever. What a masterpiece

@raineer yes, triple triad was amazing! And PlayOnline totally felt like it was going to be “a thing” at the time

Playing FFXI itself was an event, but before you even did that, you had this whole other cozy environment with a friends list and messages, a million settings, mini games… every screen looked like it had its own unique design / animations. They spent a lot of time and love on it!

It just does so much lol, all for something that most people just clicked through as fast as they could. Last time I poked around in the menus, they still had maintenance warnings for dropping Windows 2000 support.

It’s a time capsule from much better days!

@raineer I really hope they keep it running for a long time. Launching PlayOnline Viewer and hearing that music is a guilty pleasure of mine. It transports me back 20+ years, when I was running the updates overnight on dialup 😂

@raineer I started sometime around 2004-2005, and took a lot of long breaks, but I keep coming back. Still prefer it over FFXIV!

I used to be in a linkshell with a group of friends, but no one I know is playing anymore. now I’m pretty much soloing all the time, now that trusts are a thing. I’m never doing anything really important, just doing some daily quests, but I need to progress further in the many expansion storylines.

There’s just something really relaxing about it, and I love the slow pace and soundtrack / environments.

@raineer I still play FFXI, maybe a few times a week on the Steam Deck (runs great there)! I’ve got a level 99 character on Valefor

I’ve been making some adjustments, and testing the MiSTer core on my little Sony PVM CRT (sorry for the bad quality - it’s really tough to capture). But it’s so cool to see it running this way 🙂

USB mouse and keyboard are working, and it’s running a little faster now.

512x240 seems too high res for a screen like this. Perhaps a toggle for 256x240 is a good idea.

It’s looking much better now!

Varvara / Uxn core, just barely running on the MiSTer FPGA!

This is just the start, after a couple days of trying to port over the code from the Analogue Pocket core 😀

Final Fantasy X - The Calm Before the Storm (piano)

I’ve been practicing this one for a while 🙂

Small progress update on Varvara / Uxn FPGA core for Pocket:

CPU is even faster now, at 41.5 MHz, and a couple more bugs are fixed. I think it’s almost ready to release!

Bunnymark 60fps test:
305 🐰 (existing v0.0.4)
667 🐰 (new v0.0.5)

Varvara / Uxn FPGA core rewrite is coming along nicely. The CPU is 31MHz now, and no slouch at sprites!

Bunnymark 60fps test:
305 🐰 (0.0.4)
506 🐰 (0.0.5 WIP core)
