Ruby/Rails, real ale, cats (don't have any of my own, but I'll happily fuss any I meet). Currently working on a mailing list app as it seems easier than trying to install and configure GNU Mailman. #nobot #nobridge

If anyone happens to know, or be, the CFO of CityFibre, could you tell them that when potential customers see errors like this, IT IS BAD.

The solution is to put your hand in your pocket and SPEND MORE MONEY ON BACKEND CAPACITY so that people wanting to maybe sign up for your service can do so and give you money. That way, you keep getting paid.

They need to be taken over by somebody competent — who understands that the first rule of business is making it easy for people to give you money.

A screengrab of https://cityfibre.com. Below the field where you can enter a postcode in order to see if you can sign up for their service, there is an error saying (unhelpfully) “Something went wrong, please try again” (the comma splice is as written). This error occurs around 49 times out of 50, and if you get it to give you a list of addresses, you get the same error when clicking on one.

TIL terminaltrove.com/ a curated list of CLI/TUI utils. Sadly no Ruby CLIs/TUIs listed. We should change that! I still believe Ruby can be used to build powerful CLI/TUI utils; if Python or Node.js can produce popular CLIs/TUIs, no reason why Ruby cannot.

I introduced my team to Fishery (the typescript version of FactoryBot) and BLEW THEIR MINDS. 😁 They were previously using brittle, hard-coded mocks.

I can't convinced them to change the project over to ruby, but I can at least introduce a little developer happiness when I find the opportunities!

Wacom drawing tablets track the name of every application that you open

However, the title “Wacom drawing tablets used to track the name of every application that you open but now seem to have stopped for some reason” didn’t feel very snappy. I decided to do some more investigating.

This write-up of Wacom's information syphoning scheme is really good, but for me, the best part starts with the snippet I've included from near the end.
