@waystation I’m still sad Ursula passed before she could work with someone to make an updated version of LHoD to reflect the gender fluidity of the Gethens and update the pronouns in the text. It came from a time when the only default pronoun was he/him and that’s how it was written and edited. Someday I need to reread it and try to infer new pronouns for the Gethens as they move through their individual gender cycles

Today’s #ActuallyAutistic pet peeve: folks who use “*ST” instead of “*DT” for times during daylight survival time — got a message request over text based media for a “2:30 PST” meeting but they meant “2:30 PDT” — 🫠 I’d much rather they just day PT then.

But mostly? I wish daylight time would die in a fire. The time skips always mess me up.

@waystation I feel like someday #murderbot fans of the future will have “Left Hand of Darkness” discussions around the pronouns used in the books (LHoD is an Ursula K LeGuin book that probably should have some level of he/him pronouns swapped for they/them or a combo mix of neopronouns for the characters native to Gethen, the planet the book is set on)

Which is SO hard. They’re people, even if they aren’t only made out of meat, so it hurts me to have to call MB/ART/etc it/its and not like a special neopronoun or at least they/them to acknowledge they’re sentient/sapient life

@waystation honestly I don’t think they’ve used Pin-Lee’s pronouns on the show yet, but the non-present previous third was definitely referred to as “she”

@TheZeldaZone try a terry cloth head wrap for initial drying! It’s way, way gentler than the hair dryer or direct toweling! I still use a turbie twist even after I stopped dying/bleaching my hair because it’s a pleasant experience.

Also I feel you on the “x years of wrong gender” — I wish I could’ve had an undercut and kept it at a 1 or 1/2 clip from being a kid. My head is so much cooler now without 2/3rds of my hair

@TheZeldaZone oh and try to be super gentle with your hair while it’s wet, so don’t twist it super hard when you put it up or put too much tension on it; it’ll totally thrash bleached/dyed hair

@TheZeldaZone the stuff from Verb can be swapped in for normal conditioner on an every other day basis; just try to let it sit as long as possible during your shower, like wash & mask your hair at the start of your shower, put your hair up with a gentle hair tool (salon or even a normal hair claw works well, just watch for rust with normal claws), do all the rest of your shower routine, and rinse the mask off last. You’ll probably wanna do a deep mask first for best mileage
