Terrifying to hear this banal pablum spoken in Sir David Attenborough’s stolen voice. This is the #AI #mush future we feared and it is here to soothe and silence.
Just this guy, you know?
With thanks to our @acm_creativitycognition General Chairs @clatulip and Brian Bailey, the rest of the org committee and student volunteers, and to my colleagues at #CSIRO's #Data61 – in particular our Science Director @aquigley who so ably supports all the #CHI conferences as chair-elect of the #SIGCHI conference steering committee (which sounds like a lot of thankyous but as you may be able to guess, it's not half of them).

And so on. If that's your thing, then you must immediately visit:
https://cc.acm.org/2024/technical-demonstrations/ (demos)
and https://cc.acm.org/2024/posters/ (posters).
You're going to need an @ORCID_Org number, don't leave it until submission day ;)

The @acm_creativitycognition '24 theme is Organic Creative Spaces:
• How human & computational creativity can beneficially impact our communities & cultures.
• How human experience impacts and is impacted by processes of creatively forming & solving problems, designing spaces, building new possibilities.
• How creativity, craft, & design can be elicited, supported, even augmented by (novel) methods, materials, and (digital) tools.

At #creativityandcognition I've also had the honour of sharing my own work and made lifelong collaborators and friends.
It's all pretty great if you like that sort of thing, so you should send us your work.

At #creativityandcognition I have taken lessons in sketching and co-creation from the deepest practitioners of those arts and been inspired by artworks and demo systems still sparking and shedding tape. I have drunk from the well of insights brought by new contributors and generous luminaries, presented in formal talks or traced in the air with a bread roll over lunch.

Sponsored by @sigchi, C&C is wonderful, lively and deeply interdisciplinary.
I first encountered it in a century-old log cabin at the University of California, Berkeley, when I joined the 6th conference as a student of the founders, Linda Candy and Ernest Edmonds (supervisor of my still-unfinished PhD with the stalwart Andrew Johnston) and it fed my soul.

*You have until April 8th* to send in an abstract for your @acm_creativitycognition poster (up to 3,000 words) and/or a description of your technical demonstration (up to 2,000 words).
Successful posters and demos will be presented at this year's conference in Chicago (June 24-26), and published in the ACM Digital Library.

In the coming hours, authors who answered the #CallForPapers from this year's @acm_creativitycognition will begin to hear back from the program chairs. So it's timely to post this reminder: the deadline to contribute to the #Demos and #Posters tracks (which I chair alongside the excellent Amna Liaqat of @hci ) has not yet passed.
But it is approaching rapidly.

@pg my loophole statements are “X is incomparable for their contributions to Y” and “h-indices are garbage” and “wtf are you doing asking for quantitative methods in qualitative letter”
@atpfm
In Europe there are convertible and 4-door models. All have sane door handles.
Weirdly the US still doesn’t have this car, and the only colour you’re getting in 2024 will be (PRODUCT)RED with no sunroof.
At least it will still play the theme from Fellini’s Amarcord.
@atpfm
There are allegedly two more seats in the rear of this car, but I wouldn’t want to sit in them. This is a two adult, two small child maximum car. But it satisfies my main criteria. It’s small and light for an EV, it charges quickly, it’s cute as hell.
@atpfm
- Physical seat controls
- Speedometer in front of driver
- Radar adaptive cruise control
@atpfm
- Physical button climate control
- Physical buttons for “gear” selector (P, R, N, D)
- Carplay (bluetooth and wired)
- Centre screen not required to operate car
@atpfm
- No full glass roof on mine
- Sunroof opens
LIVE! From #siggraphasia2023 in Sydney right now, the incredible real-time live demos, on stage without a net, hosted by the magnificent Michela Ledwidge
If you happen to be in Sydney and able to get to Eveleigh this afternoon, the Sydney Chapter of CHI is putting on some talks here at @data61 hosted by @aquigley. Visit the lab or come by for drinks after ^_^
We just launched a new PhD program to recruit upto 28 students for ‘Science Digital’ for suitable students interested in study in Australia. (International and domestic)
These projects are looking at how AI and digital technologies can reinvent and augment the process of scientific discovery.
