Mr. Vonstauf

I moved over here since I'm more of a security nerd anyhow. I am that von/stauf/vonstauf. Say howdy, I use this as a glorified RSS reader nowadays.

The way people crow about AI adoption is wrong, as its crammed down all our collective throats and no one wants it.

It would be like saying U2 had skyrocketing popularity when their album was inserted into everyone's iTunes library so many years ago, as opposed to the actual outrage against them.

Don't talk to me about being 1337 unless your homepage is totally usable in lynx. (Snaps fingers)

I'm having that weird feeling of "The Internet gotten too big, it's time for it to shrink again" feeling.

@DaveFlater Yeah I've been watching their feature creep and I've been watching the foundation's decisions on the future and it's making me nervous, but I think they are still the best option.

I am watching their release notes like a hawk, however, to make sure I'm up to date on what should be flipped off or not.

And per @USBTypeSteve 's comment it's a good base for other forks.

Of course the problem with forks too is that the will of the community peters out and updates can become scarce.

@USBTypeSteve Yeah, Chromium is also off my list immediately. And I concur about Brave. It's the NordVPN of browsers.

Is the best browser/plugin combo to save people on the holidays still "Here is Firefox/Here is Ublock"?

All the new browsers have the feel of snackoil and sensationalism and firefox is starting to feel like they want join that party.

Remember: If you're visiting relatives now is a great time to get Signal installed on their phones with a little tutorial about the benefits.

End to End Encryption isn't a nice to have, it's a must.

I think the new test is:
1. Is it owned by a billionaire?
2. If so, walk away.

Rinse and repeat.

It's concerning the amount of things to walk away from, but remember it's sometimes possible to try and create something to walk to.

It takes time to grow and shape, but its truly worthwhile.

Nothing like walking off Thankgiving coma with an early bird walk. I got to see a Bald Eagle, Juncos, Canada Geese, Coots, Mallards, Sparrows, Finches, Doves, Pidgins, Mallards, Red Winged Black Birds, Kinglets, Warblers, Robins, Magpies, Ravens, Crows, Gulls, and a Blue Heron among others.

Nothing quite captures the current zeitgeist like this panel from one of the Treehouse of Horror comics in the recently dropped 3rd volume.

Homer Simpson in the most soul drained melodramatic woo-hoo of his career.

The upcoming Christmas holidays are a fine time to delve into horror. One of my favorite traditions is reading ghost stories aloud and I was thinking of running a game with a sufficiently spooky theme in Victorian England.

Chaosium was kind enough to drop this sourcebook before the Holidays so I could read up and see if I could remix something up, if not that then Cthulhu Dark would do just fine. It’s not the Winter Solstice without a little blood in the snow.

Considering that we now live in a poorly written fanfic Cyberpunk timeline, it's a good time to pull out the almost quarter of a century Mondo Cyberpunk infographic to help everyone get ready for 2025.

Now the question is...

R U || R U !

That said, I like the Bluesky reposting thing where you can add to it, but the original author can remove their post from it if they want.

That's neato.

I will keep fingers in Blue Sky and Mastodon for now, but I think my forever home is Mastodon.

It's the actually decentralized network with interoperability weirdos like me crave.

With the world kind of swerving all over the road, I'm glad this place exists.

I'm having an election night party in which I fully think the room of 20 plus people will just be staring at my big screen as we refresh results for local and federal elections with a look of grim foreboding on our faces.

2024.

I don't know man.

Musk and Trump teaming up and Americans not trying to fend off that bullshit makes me wonder about their commitment to sparkle motion.

I'm just not into AI stuff ya'll.

Half the charm of a lot of things I like is knowing someone out there made a decision and put in the human effort to make a thing.
