@mclare I got one of the fancy Zojirushi models a few years ago (I was on an Uncle Roger kick) and it's worth every penny and all the praise/gushing people give it.

@adamghill @josh I'm not one of these people either, but sometimes it's bew fewer steps in a web framework knew something about html elements instead of linking to a template tag that calls out to an external template that may or may not include or call another template tag which links to another template files and ya.
The whole opengraph world comes to mind as an example of this.
@calum I think Wagtail is worth the effort. That whole data thing is something I'm really good at losing my saving throw on (in case it's just me)
Today marks 18 years of doing REVSYS full time! https://www.revsys.com/tidbits/18-years-of-revsys/ It has been a great run, but I wouldn't recommend opening a business right before a big recession if I had to do it again!
@calum it's weird, but it's been a while. Basically, content_types all the way down.
What does my job search mean for Outreachy?
The Outreachy team is sad at the possibility of me leaving the team, but they're excited to see me take on my next challenge. My love of documentation and mentoring others means the team is in a good place to take on my current work.
People keep telling me that AI is bullshit and there is no gold, and yet I used it to make a sign including multiple changes today. It nailed it.
If you are in the Lawrence, KS / KC area and want to see our new office and celebrate the 18th anniversary, here are the details:

(even if we haven't met in person, feel free to drop by)
@calum I really, really, really, really wish Wagtail had a better and *repeatable* story for getting data in and out of it. I think it's gotten better, but I struggle with it every new project to the point I dread it.
@sethmlarson If not for kids and the legal requirement, I would totally abandon my phone for an Internet-only mobile device.
@calum What puts me over the edge is how Go Templates handles date formatting. Some serial killer stuff in there.
@josh @adamghill I keep coming back to the other Adam's h project https://github.com/adamchainz/h
Something about it mixed with spellbook's magic html templates just working speaks to me.
Specifically, this example with the div template block is soothing...
@petervanderdoes @adriano Sure, they even start with "key controls deep in touchscreen menus" which I'm driving more of a hybrid screen+buttons (Subaru) vs. a Tesla or something that is entirely screen with no buttons.
I 100% agree that distracted driving is a problem. I see too many drivers texting on their phones while driving.
Back to what I said, the standard things on a bright screen that don't require me to look down aren't less safe. There is tactile feedback too.
@adriano I think a hybrid approach is safe. I don't have to look down with 2023 Subaru dashboard either.
It has a mix of physical buttons (for the fan, etc) and the screen augments where some of the groups common controls are. I think they are easier to see without looking down because they are bright vs. looking down to figure out which button I need.
I think projecting common dashboard settings (read-only) on my can window would be the safest, but only really high-end cars do that.
The auto-breaking, lane-assistant, etc I find to be 10x safer and a nicer driving experience than my ~21-year-old car that had none of these features.
I use the backup camera and the side cameras every day to park and to safely back up.
I don't find the touch screen of my Subaru to be distracting, the buttons are big and visible without needing my full attention. About the same as looking down for a button.
What I find as distracting is when I'm driving and the alert goes off because the car doesn't think I'm paying attention is distracting AF. That requires looking down to see why there's an alert (which is lower than the center console).
99.9% of the time, it's because I'm too tall.
@wsvincent @frank I'm sure Frank carried it to 420.69 which was cut off.
@calum I almost commented on your Hugo post the other day. It's not my favorite either.
Every time I try out a new static website generator, all I can think is "who hurt you?" that this is how one wants to spend their life?
I wish Jekyll were faster and allowed a collection to have multiple detail templates. Everything else seems to suck at what Jekyll is good at, which is a shame they don't consider a baseline to being an acceptable solution.
