@lina I feel you, this is why I switched away from Google as well.

@lina I feel you, this is why I switched away from Google as well.
@ben I wonder if many Americans, like me, have lost faith in news institutions. I used to pay for nyp and wp, but both have betrayed my trust recently. I'm considering paying for 404 but feel like I need more time to vet them before I can commit. I also feel like this is why state-funded media needs to exist *and* be neutral, because then people can have the proverbial cake and eat it too - everyone can be informed, but those who want more have options to pay for it.
@adriannyc there's already an iso for the handheld version so I'd imagine they'll release the desktop version too. And of course the various handheld editions of gaming distros. So there's options!
@adriannyc ahh okay! I wondered if that was the case. I'm hoping that I'll be able to set up a Steam Machine as a similar sort of set top box thing, for the same reason. I usually use an Amazon Echo Cube and it's riddled with buggy apps and annoying ads.
@adriannyc this looks sick as heck! We are marching ever closer to the day when everything can be linuxed. What TV is this? Or is this a USB plugged into the TV situation?
@lina and this is why I use Kagi search 😂😂 I was skeptical about paying for search but it's way nicer to be a customer than to be the product.
@lina loofa or something like that?
@ozoned libredirect does that to a small degree, redirecting from social media to their free counterparts or wrappers.
@paninid this is such a brilliant way of describing the folly of AI in general. This is why I am utterly convinced that it (at least in its current form) will fail. It offers nothing of value, or at least nothing that justifies its cost. Eventually all the techbros will realize this and stop pumping money into it. It has to turn a profit eventually.
@ApostateEnglishman @benroyce @StarkRG dang, 90% is crazy. I'd absolutely be for compulsory voting in the US if it actually got people to vote. Maybe then we wouldn't have so many Epsteiners in power ruining the system for the rest of us.
Just gonna jump in here to add one more plug for Fedora. It's not perfect but it and its derivatives are what I've always come back to when I've branched out. I currently have Nobara and Fedora on two different workstations and it works great on both, no issues that I didn't cause for myself by being dumb.
@ollieparanoid @z3ntu @postmarketOS noice! I'll have some good stuff to listen to at work
@z3ntu @postmarketOS @ollieparanoid sweet!
@z3ntu @postmarketOS @ollieparanoid awesome, thanks for that info!
@postmarketOS @z3ntu @ollieparanoid are there plans to put the vods up somewhere?
@lina very good thing to remember! I feel like the gross tech bro AI stuff will inevitably fail, and when it does, us tinkerers and nerds will be able to reclaim a lot of what they've built for better purposes. A lot of what they've built is dumb, and the methodology is even dumber, but I think there's a lot of good that could come of it once it's out of their hands.
@decorum is it necessary or advised to install Waydroid, microg, etc.? Or do android apps work out of the box?
@lina out of curiosity, do those M series chips run macOS, Asahi Linux, or a mix?
@linmob thanks for the detailed writeup! I recently settled on postmarketos with phosh so your endorsement makes me feel good about that choice. That all makes sense about the "institutional" app space - government, banks, etc. Conservative sectors are going to be slow to adopt what they'd probably perceive as dodgy software on bootleg hardware. I'm hopeful for FOSS being accepted, however, as it seems many are searching for alternatives to the institutional space.
