I just found a setting in my iPhone's *Security and Privacy* settings, and I cannot believe I didn't know about it but I'm genuinely impressed, and have turned it on now. I'm going to just paste the paragraph from settings:

*App Privacy Report* shows how often apps use the permission you’ve granted to access your data, like your location or microphone. It also includes a breakdown of each app’s network activity, website network activity, and the most frequently contacted domains.

My kid just WhatsApped from his German exchange trip. They had to call an ambulance for him.

He has food poisoning, was very pale and nauseous. He was dehydrated and his blood pressure was dropping.

He's fine now but I wanted to share this because it has the most Western Europe Is a Civilized Place ending ever.

The paramedics came to the mall, took him into the ambulance, gave him an IV, checked him out, stayed with him until he felt better, then told him "No charge. Enjoy your trip to Germany." And if that wasn't enough, when they realized the group had had to move onto the train station without him, they gave him a ride over there to catch up with them.

I'm so ground down by the predatory realities of America in general in 2025 that this just about blew my fucking mind.

@NikJov @amir @NVAccess Does screen layout make a difference in either screen reader here? What does JAWS show directly above the heading? Because it will probably still say end of list, unsure about article.

@matt What about MSAA? NVDA has to routinely cope with, what, MSAA, UIA, whatever Java is doing, whatever hack QT is doing, and now whatever GTK is doing, plus IAccessible2? Is Iaccessible2 browsers only?

Last Boost: Why? Just why? Is there one *accessible* messaging app that doesn't fucking includes AI and another ton of bullshit and stays what it is. A simple, direct, private Messenger? Don't say Signal, desktop app is a joke regarding screenreader usability!

And yes, I know Telegram wasn't secure before, but I at least sort of liked it for its bots and API.

Edit: Last Boost, for instance, because many people boosted it, thanks for that btw, was: tech.lgbt/@Natasha_Jay/1145864

If you use Telegram, now’s probably a good time to stop.

Musk has just signed a one-year partnership with Telegram to integrate his AI Grok into the message app.

xAI will invest $300 million, cash and equity, and share 50% of Grok subscription revenue.

@matt This would be more akin to VO cursor tracking I think right? Does narrator do something like that?

@matt Is that a thing it can actually do? I didn't know there was an API in UIA etc to scroll a random object into view, I thought you had to manipulate the scrollbars, or move the actual keyboard focus. Also, probably because object navigation is deliberately supposed to be untethered from the focus by default, if the application is reacting to object navigation it can cause weird shit no? Moving the keyboard focus, with NVDA+shift+backspace or whatever the desktop gesture is, does scroll an object into view though I think? Are you asking for a setting as a sort of inverse of focus moves navigator object, navigator object moves focus?

if you, or someone you know may be a candidate for this, please share and spread the word. I am ineligible with regards to only one requirement, and it is enfuriating. So much good can be done here.

Get in the habit of bringing up accessibility at meetings, in stand-ups, and in demos. Bring up things you've done to address accessibility. Likewise, don't be afraid to ask, "Have we tested this on a keyboard?" or "What's the experience like on a screen reader?"

@JamminJerry @mhussain @SeveraSnape @FreakyFwoof @cordova5029 I'm part of the dropbox called nice fakes but unsure who's it is. Is there a real difference between the two? Does one use a different format, are they synchronized etc? It's showing as 16.40 GB on my side.

Does anyone know if there are any trans or lgbt whatsapp communities, especially if they are also blind communities?

@BorrisInABox @jakobrosin Oh god. Luckilly it didn't rip itself out of the fixture right there with its load gone!

@BorrisInABox @jakobrosin Ceiling fans on high always scared me. It sounds like it's going to fly right off its fixture it's moving so fast and humming so loud! Technology Connections, I think, actually did a video on exactly how much thrust a ceiling fan exerts against the ceiling. It is less than one might think. But the shaking was scarier to me than any thought of thrust.

@mhussain So, say, if something is eating your bandwidth and you don't know what, you can open that, get the network view up, and sort by traffic descending and you'll get values in b/s.

@mhussain Perfmon.exe is sort of like task manager, it's built into WIndows, performance monitor it's called. If you run it with the /res command line switch, it opens the resource monitor section, which allows you to check on thigns like CPU and memory, but also disk I/O, network I/O etc, and sort by those. They're in groupings. In the context menu of processes there are suspend and resume options.

you cannot have an "injection attack" in a system with no formal distinction between data and instructions. what you actually have is an "everything is instructions" model and a failure to isolate untrusted inputs from the elevated privilege of access to private information

Apropos of several things floating across my TL, I just want to say as somebody who teaches college:

Yes, absolutely, politically conservative students on campus end up feeling uncomfortable in their views, constantly challenged. 100%.

So do leftists.

So do centrists.

So do students who attempt to be apolitical.

Nobody gets to hang out on campus feeling comfortable and cushy in their worldview. That is…you know…kind of the point of the place.
