Just another pseudorandom.

Right, time to see about running my own Mastodon server. I was going to use the time to look at running a Mastodon->Twitter cross-poster but it sounds like that is now a complete waste of time.

if you want to get a sense of some of the impact of this change, just look at the quote tweets 💔

Alt Text Reader @get_altText This bot will probably stop working next week.
It's been a long time coming at this point, but I'm still disappointed.

Not sure if BirdSite has any feet left to shoot itself in.

I don't think YouGov really understands what "Google Docs" and "Google Cloud" are in this context. I.e. they're subscription services not one off goods purchases.

the Voight Kampf test scenes in Blade Runner, but instead it's just Harrison Ford like "please try to draw a woman with correct number of fingers or teeth."

Is Charlie on five bucks the hill Dutton wants to die on? Seriously? (TBH, I thought he was already dead. I'm not up to date on Aus politics.)

I remember when that first plastic £5 note came out. The second best thing about it was you could scratch the queen's hair off and give her a mohawk. (The best thing is they didn't melt into lint in the wash.)

Tories: rather than fix any of the big problems we have the power to do something about, we'll make a law to fuck you for the small problem that solves the big problem in your own life that we have caused and have no desire to fix.

A and B love each other, love the connection, but hate me... view me with distrust and suspicion. Despite all my efforts at openness and honesty.

It's a life lesson really. The lesson of a life. A life misspent thinking anyone gave a shit, and there really was such a thing as community.

2023-02-02

It's like I've spent 9 years earning nothing running a service that connects A to B whilst both A and B resent me for it. What do you do. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sometimes think at least 50% of my energy goes into simply not having some kind of complete mental breakdown. Some days, definitely.

2023-02-01

Quite often the best you can do isn't anywhere near good enough... and that's just life really.

@CatherineFlick fun! Got a little FlashForge one recently... has been interesting/fun to do some stuff with. (Have some specific reservations about the printer we have, but it does generally work.)

Recommend getting a relatively airtight box to keep filament in, and pop some dessicant in with it. (I have a humidity monitor in the box, it's 28% in there vs 62% in the room)

2023-02-01

Excitement in the post today!

2023-02-01

@CatherineFlick I would love to have been in the room when someone asked him for his opinion on Starbucks, and Costa. 😂 He is exceedingly polite though.

Starbucks beans are basically cremated. If I'm on the road, need caffeine, and land at a Starbucks services it's a can of Monster for me. Costa espresso is bearable... if one must. Wonder how much robusta is in them.

Those of us who're already pretty much nose to tail eaters may need to be worried about price inflation or our cheaper but tasty animal parts next.

Probably time we went vegetarian TBF.

* I ordered Yeo Valley butter for £2.50 for 250g... that's the on special price, marked down from £3.00. In July 2020 I got the same butter for £2.10 not on special.

The butter I normally buy is french and has gone up by over a quid.

It's not breaking the bank numbers. But it does make you pause for thought.

(I ordered 6 of the Yeo Valley as the price is good, for the times, and butter can last forever in the freezer.)

2023-01-31

After thinking about butter prices* today (I've changed the brand I normally buy due to another one being on special) I'm wondering if the current economic situation will see rediscovery of more thrifty eating in the UK. More of the nose to tail.

I say this whilst spreading reserved lard from a pork roast on toast, which it turns out isn't bad with a touch of Promite.

Dripping is a bit better for this, but beef is a bit above my pay grade.

Lard is more spreadable in the cold than butter too.

Have to reconstitute my old dead LumpedIn account... just to make it worse.

2023-01-31

LOL, #fenlyfe... this is in the email from the organic farm (business landlords, but we also buy veg from them):

"The last few days of dry weather means the land has started to dry out which should enable us to actually get on the land without sinking"

Par for the course.
