Didn't just find a new edge case that didn't quite work ever?

I'm not saying typing fast makes me a better programmer, but I _am_ saying that typing fast makes me objectively cooler 😎

Planes go fast. Don't you want the laptop to also go fast?

Finland Didn't End Homelessness With Magic.

They Just Didn't Treat It Like a Business Plan.

You can still run a café. Start a band. Sell socks online. Capitalism still works in Finland.

But they decided that housing people didn't need to turn a profit.

Because sometimes, the moral thing is the practical thing. And no one thrives when their neighbour is sleeping in a tent by the river.

You can't KPI your way out of a crisis. Sometimes, you just have to give a damn.

This falls in the same category as "I hope this email finds you unwell" and "unkind regards"

@maruno The big downside to hosting your own mail server is that you'll be in spam folder hell. It's very difficult to get a good IP reputation and without it most big services will just mark your entire domain as spam. having correctly configured SPF, DMARC, and DKIM helps a bit.

Ended up cancelling my Soverin plan again. They turned out to just be too basic for what I'm looking for. Very minimal webmail, no shared folders, no native apps, clunky settings interface. Back to Fastmail I go 🙃

@maruno
If you want to keep everything in sync then you'll want something that supports imap. Pop3 will remove messages from the server once any device has seen them.

I think the CEO of TransIP is a bit of an ass so I don't want to give them money 😂

@maruno
I like keeping everything on the mailserver so my computer and phone and whatever can all access everything. What's your usual provider?

2025-05-26

@maruno
I'm trying out soverin.nl currently. They don't have many extra features (basically just a simple smtp/imap server) which is fine honestly but I had gotten used to features like snoozing and shared folders.

The price does reflect the smaller feature set. €29/yr for 25 GB storage (shared across users) and €10/yr per user.

They do domain registrations too, but you can get those for better prices elsewhere.

@soatok
Hey! I'm a software engineer at work, mostly for financial institutions (teams as a service, not quite secondment). At home I like tinkering with self hosting stuff but also currently trying to move away from US services for stuff I don't want to self host.

Mostly focussing on getting my email setup in a way I like on a Dutch service, and using the saved money (currently on Fastmail) to spend on some new services to play with!

I like wearing a dog mask and collar :p

Found your blog when I searched for "furry security blog with rss"

In my experience a lot of guys assume they won't be used and expect you to be on PrEP. It's a big reason I don't like going to play parties anymore.

My aspirations:

- I'd love to be someone who just reads for an hour uninterrupted every evening
- I'd love to be someone who can get lost in drawing and making art a lot
- I'd love to hang out with my boyfriend more
- I'd love to spend more time volunteering
- I'd love to work on some of my open source projects more

I can't have them all so my mind decides to do none..

It's an OWNERS manual right? So whoever reads it must be the owner!
