The true reward is the friends we made along the way. And the tales we get to share. Plus the loot our characters found. And the levels they gained. But mostly the friendship thing. And the stories.
#rpgaday2025 DAY 31 REWARD. There are many forms of reward for PCs, but only two reliably work for players. Fun and friendship.
#rpgaday2025 DAY 30 EXPERIENCE. Early #TTRPG experience systems were points based, but even then, GMs were dealing with multiple forms of it. The PCs experience pts, each PC's experience of the campaign, and the experience of everyone at the table. It turns out we were never just doin' it for the XP.

My first TTRPG experience involved a GM who carried his gaming stuff around in a hand-me-down white Samsonite hard shell briefcase. His D&D/AD&D campaign featured a Learjet and a red convertible. I think it was a Cadillac.

More of this hobby takes place over internet connections than ever. My introverted self welcomes it. On the other hand, TTRPGs are an activity where I'm actually willing to come into close proximity to other people. I'm conflicted.
#RPGaDay2025 DAY 29 CONNECT. Something I've found helpful when I'm stumped for a scenario is to make a list (of NPCs, places, #TTRPG books on my shelf, etc.) and try and connect 3-6 of them. It almost always shakes something loose.
#RPGaDay2025 DAY 28 SUSPENSE. As with so much in life, suspense in #TTRPG s is about delaying gratification, but not for so long that it becomes frustrating.
