So I'm at that age (have been for a while) where some friends of shuffled off their mortal coil, a fair amount of elder family are gone too.
Lately I've been wishing a "Happy Birthday" to those still around, and I've been thinking about the meaning of it to those receiving it and those saying it.
It always feels somewhat inadequate as a phrase by itself when I say this to my friends of double digit years. Heck even to newly made friends too.
So i think now when I say "Happy Birthday" to a person, I want the meaning behind that phrase to say
"I'm happy you've been around for the last year, and I'll be happy to say it next year, and the next and so on for many more years after. Please stick around even though we don't talk as much or in depth as we used to but knowing you're around is enough for me, everything else is lovely icing on the cake that is you".
So even if I don't know you yet, "Happy Birthday" you good #Fediverse #netizens . Stay awesome.
