Een ruwharige, lichtbruine hond ligt ontspannen op een beige, zachte deken. De poten zijn netjes over elkaar gevouwen en de hond kijkt rustig en vriendelijk in de camera. Op de achtergrond is een raam met jaloezieën te zien en rechts een versierde kerstboom met witte ballen en ornamenten. De kamer oogt gezellig en licht.

Een lichtbruine hond met ruwharige vacht ligt ontspannen op een beige fleece deken, die over een bank gedrapeerd is. De hond kijkt naar rechts, richting het raam waar lichte jaloezieën hangen. Rechts op de achtergrond staat een versierde kerstboom met witte en zilveren ballen en lichtjes. Naast de hond ligt een roestbruine kussen op de bank. Het geheel oogt knus en feestelijk.

幻日の英名は「sun dog」（太陽の犬）。なぜこのような名前なのか不思議に思いました。

AIに聞いてみたところ、その語源は不明とのことでした。しかし、最も有力な説として、英語で動詞の dogには「つきまとう」「後を追う」という意味があり、幻日は本物の太陽から左右に22度離れた位置に現れて太陽に付き従っている（dogging）ように見えることからそう名付けられたという説です。この説は、とても説得力があると思いました。現象と名前が合理的に結びついているように思えます。
