допрошёл последнего ace attorney - вторые расследования. мой топ - great, феникс, расследования, аполло. вообще все хорошие, но the great ace attorney особенно имбовый с целостным сюжетом и с фокусом на раскрытии основных персонажей. как обычно когда автору дают свободу воплощать что он задумал и сколько он задумал - получается лучше всего. а когда загоняют в рамки или пытаются вытягивать на репутации предшественников, получается в лучшем случае просто ок. эх нужен перезапуск первой трилогии но с качеством грейта, вот это была бы бомба, но не дождёмся💯😔

absolutely absurd ace attorney headcanon as it applies to the english-language localization of the series:

there was some kind of civil war or dissolution event in the united states shortly before the start of the first game, the games are set in whatever breakaway republic contains california, and eventually that specific republic happened to regain the name "USA"

consider the following:

• in the early games, characters often just said things like "in this country" instead of mentioning the u.s. by name, this eventually got relaxed later on (but it would also work with the fact that the passport in 1-1 is very clearly a united states passport -- for a real-life example, soviet passports were valid for many years after 1991, and people were able to travel with those

• it would take a significant change in a nation's legal system to force all trials to be resolved in three days, and it would probably clash heavily with the real-life u.s. constitution

• likewise, the fact that there's way less gun violence, and in one of the games, the fact that guns are a lot rarer to come by had to be specifically addressed (makes sense for japan, doesn't make sense for the real-life u.s., can theoretically make sense for a breakaway republic where the most powerful region is california)

• there are surprisingly few u.s. flags in the game's backgrounds -- even locations where the japanese game clearly shows a japanese flag usually replaces these with plain-colored or multi-national flags instead

• would also explain why there's a completely different space program in the fifth game, which has a lower budget and has to promote itself to the public a lot more, even turning a still-functioning launch pad into a museum

(of course, the proper out-of-universe explanation is that localizing a game that originally took place in japan into one that takes place in the u.s. would naturally cause difficult-to-resolve issues, which only grew as the series expanded, and since the same localization was also reused for european releases, some of which likewise change characters' names and the setting, it was easier for the localizers to just avoid u.s.-specific graphics, and some of it's just trademarks, neither NASA nor JAXA would have agreed to have a game where their space center would be used as a murder location)

okay, so i decided to do the "asinine attorney" segments in spirit of justice, and i still feel like the apollo justice segment is missing a point

a princess of a kingdom has arrived into what's canonically los angeles (in fact, if you're playing a high-def release of aa6, you can see evidence of that in roger retinz's business card), she wants to find a place to see based on what she saw on tv, ostensibly to build better relations between said kingdom and the u.s.

during the course of a segment that isn't really a trial, but is set in a courtroom and uses the same cross-examination mechanics, apollo finds out that the place she saw isn't a real location, but part of a tv show "the steel samurai"

eventually, it ends with her discovering that even if some of the places she had flyers for aren't exactly her dream location, they're still filled with amazing things and people worth seeing

and somehow, everyone in this segment forgot that "the steel samurai" is also filmed in los angeles, and that the law firm apollo works at famously helped get the show's lead actor acquitted of murder, so it would not be out of the realm of possibility for him to call in a favor and let the princess tour the studio for a bit

i think the earliest #AceAttorney games might not be as fun or filled with quotable moments as the later ones, the developers haven't yet figured out everything (one thing i noticed is that the non-productive "press" dialogues are very short and dull)

but also, there's just as much dark stuff in the first game as in the later ones, phoenix has to face against a blackmailer responsible for dozens of suicides of influential people in literally his second case

also, at this point he still thinks edgeworth is this shady evil prosecutor who might be submitting falsified evidence?

now this guy, he needs to get his dictionary checked out, there's something wrong with it #AceAttorney
