The #CrossBorderRail 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 Régiolis trains have finally been approved to run in 🇩🇪
Here’s the EU Agency for Railways approval

This video will take forever to make btw so it's not a particularly urgent thing, I'll probably make videos about other topics first. But I do wanna talk about this issue since it's relevant to #CrossBorderRail and risks being a problem for decades if we don't solve it asap
Good morning #Ljubljana 🎉 !
My :hzpp: :kb_en: 40237 #Sava arrived 90 minutes late, right perfectly on time for my customer meeting.
Now three days of work before resuming my #FOSSRail trip to #FOSDEM .
On the rails again… #Interrail #CrossBorderRail
Today I am heading up to Brussels, in the hopes of being able to do some sightseeing before #FOSDEM later this week. Brussels is a new city, and Belgium is a new country, being the 16th I visit since I started my sabbatical in August 2024.
I’m taking the route that “avoids Paris” by changing at Lyon and then skirting round the ring-rail and not actually stopping at any of the Paris termini. Whilst it’s a bit of a detour, it’s still better than having to change in Paris.
I will have an extended lunch break in Lyon, as the train that leaves immediately after mine arrives from Barcelona had no reservations available when I booked it at the end of last year.
Anyway, first I need to get past the 90 minutes or so of communications blackout that is the Barcelona-Perpignan line… See you in France!

After some more regional trains and a short :db: :de_ic_1971: InterCity ride, I could enjoy waiting for my delayed :hzpp: :kb_en: 40237 #Sava for three hours out in the cold.
Anyways, after all, my train arrived and I got a comfortable :hzpp: wagon-lits sleeper compartment for my night trip via Salzburg and Villach to Ljubljana.
Sleep tight everyone 😴.
Safely in Lisbon - meeting hotel really is right next to Oriente station. 7 trains (discounting the RER), and 2 overnights Cambridge to Lisbon. I'm going back a slightly different way next weekend... #CrossBorderRail
We got into Entroncamento at the time my connecting train was due to depart, but thankfully it was running 9 minutes late and it was a cross-platform change, so I am safely on the final train of this #CrossBorderRail trip, and should be in Lisbon in about fifty minutes :-)

Luggage packed, first #CrossBorderRail train caught : I'm leaving for three weeks of train travels today ; connecting the FOSDEM in Belgium via the Baltics, Kamchatka, Kazakhstan and China with the FOSSASIA in Thailand. My first destination will be 🇸🇮 #Ljubljana due to a business trip.
I gladly caught the last :db: 🤝🏽 :sncf: :fr_ter: :pride_fluo: RB52 / C38 on #Bienwaldbahn since the later ones are canceled.
Outfit : the #CrossBorderRail shirts from @jon !
If you're interested in my travel report, follow #FOSSRail on your Fedi instance of choice.
Badajoz was a pleasant place to overnight, but now it's time for #CrossBorderRail day three, hopefully to Lisbon via Entroncamento. This is a 1950s diesel railcar, refurbished in 2001.
Anyone familiar with Slovenian railways knows what the hell “V ODOHU” is supposed to mean? Trying to take IC 247 in Hungary and trying to guess how much it will be delayed. (MÁV of course has no idea). Is that “67 min delay”? Or “leaving in 67 min”?
The journey to #FOSDEM is about to start!
🚆REX 2507 Bratislava hl. st. → Wien Hbf
I'm cynically *assuming* their thought will be "a) if we end up running a train then you should have known that three weeks ago and not arranged any alternatives; b) if we run some kind of train you should assume you can get on despite having to compete with everyone who wants to get to Antwerp, and if you don't manage to get on, that's your problem."
I dunno if there's #CrossBorderRail regulations that cover this, and if there are, whether SNCB actually honours them?
SNCB has strikes on Monday. We're going #CrossBorderRail Brussels to Rotterdam on Monday.
They will tell us the day before (tomorrow, Sunday) whether the service is running. Since the strikes have been known about for several weeks, we have bought Flixbus tickets and are minded to use them since even if they make sure international trains are running, they'll be hugely overcrowded and seat reservation is not a thing.
Will we be entitled to:
Train ride from Barcelona to Madrid did me a nice lunch, and some good scenery. Unfortunately it gradually got later and later, arriving in Madrid 1h40 late! Which only gave me 7 minutes to find the train to Badajoz. Thankfully, a couple of staff pointed me in the right direction (to the front of the platform ignoring the no exit signs), and I somehow managed to get on the train to Badajoz!
Not the least stressful #CrossBorderRail trip I've ever had...
