@MakersHour A5: A lack of dystopia would be a great start! Then more local maker community, man-in-shed group kind of thing. Then more robot helpers around the house wouldn’t hurt. 😜
If we’re being philosophical, then it would be nice to make more of a difference somehow. I hold my own, but always looking for opportunities to do more.
@MakersHour A1. The ghost of Christmas yet to come? Perhaps volunteering at the tool library at the community center. Perhaps needlework after dinner in warm socks. Maybe making things for friends.
That's end of the final #MakersHour of 2025!
We'll be back again on the 8th January so I can take a break of a couple of weeks.
If anyone wants to send in some questions for the bank, it would be very much appreciated.
Also, if anyone want a go at hosting, and making the hour their own, I am happy to hand over the reins (and the account password), for the period. Just let me know.
Thank you all, and have a very merry Christmas, holidays, whatever you wish to do, and I hope you have a creative new year!
xx
@MakersHour A5 more miniature furniture!! And lots of tiny things with small stories. #MakersHour
@MakersHour night night all at #makershour . Thank you so much to our hosts and thank you fantastic international maker friends for sharing your thoughts . Seasonal joy to you all.
@MakersHour Well, the ghost in question forgot to remind me about #MakersHour!!! Sorry I missed it folks. Here’s some fabric covered buttons for you.
Thanks again for another terrific makers hour! Happy Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas and any other holidays one celebrates.
@MakersHour
A5 #makershour either a little place of our own or guaranteed pepper corn rent here and enough money to live and make comfortably with a little left over for my urchins.
Happily part of my little group of maker, Mahjong and singing friends. Gardening and working in the big house and grounds here and helping out other folk. No big dreams of wealth. Just enough and please PEACE OF MIND and maybe a bit of a creative outlet.
PLUS IMPORTANTLY... I'd like to know a lovely friend I've written to recently is safe
@ultrazool
I am banking on it!
There has to be space for the warm fuzzies, otherwise there would be little point left.
@drfootleg @MakersHour
Hello neighbour! 👋
#MakersHour #Q5 what would give me the "warm fuzzies", dystopia aside?
That's awfully personal!
The chance to spend more time together with the person who's unlocked life in me, whose presence opens a rolling field of terrible love poetry, who's different every time; to discover where our creative urges really touch and could really go, to spread that feeling easily around
The mere thought is a warm fuzzy. Could dystopia contain space for this? Bloody well hope so
@Indigoatcrafts @MakersHour
I am with you there.
Teaching has too much PTSD associated with it for me.
@Maker_of_Things @MakersHour A5: I am living not far from Alfred and Sue on another small holding in Wales. We lend each other tools and sometimes swap chickens to add to the diversity of our flocks. Our cats love the place, but are not thrilled when Alfred and Sue bring their dog over. It rains a lot less in the future in Wales as this is a utopian vision. #MakersHour

A5: what would give me the best satisfaction in coming years would be to learn about all the kids and others that I’ve taught to do things passing that knowledge on.
@quixoticgeek
Yes.
The more of us doing this, the better.
Q5: Putting aside any dystopian thoughts, describe what would give you the ‘warm fuzzies’ in the coming years/decades.
A5: Just being able to keep making, pottering, restoring, tinkering etc.
@Indigoatcrafts @quixoticgeek
Are side projects allowed to be bigger than the main project that it is a side of?
A5 moving carefully and fixing things. The world has a lot of technical debt it's accruing, and it's time now to start fixing things.
@wokstation
The holy grail!
