Our manuscript about the (lack of) association between neonatal jaundice and autism is accepted (as it is confounded by gestational age and birth weight by gestational age) is accepted in @actapaed :)
Large population-based study using national register data in Sweden.
Stay tuned for the details!

This paper on #furosemide treatment of #preterm infants is a great RCT, but I think there is a common misunderstanding, from reading comments like "Yes, I know furo is not working!".
The RCT was done to look into furosemide safety, not efficacy.
I am also sceptical about furosemide and BPD prevention, would be too good to be true, but we would need a much larger trial to look into that question.

Am at the #ESPGHAN conf in Helsinki, great program and lots of people from all corners of the world.
Got a nice notebook from the Novonesis company telling
"The future is unwritten.
Make a note of it."

True that.

The DOLFIN study (UK) has completed/closed recruitment, investigating whether two groups of infants (preterm infants and term infants with HIE) benefit from supplementation of DHA, choline and UMP.
Two years' wait until we know about the primary outcome (Non-verbal Cognitive Scale standardised score of the Parent Report of Children's Abilities-Revised (PARCA-R), at age 24 months post EDD)

Case reports give less merit / attention, but can have important take-homes.
My very 1st publication, paving the way into academic writing, was a case series in @actapaed, about infants that developed severe water intoxications (w seizures) during delivery, due to high maternal water intake (this was in the later 1990s, when zipping lots of water was a a trendy habit).

Now we are writing up two case reports with high relevance... stay tuned :)

Prague has a special place in my heart, after being an exchange student at a surgical dept in 1988 and the several visits to follow after the Velvet Revolution in 1989.
Now, my engagement in neonatal nutrition will bring me back, really looking fw!

In Finland they do many great things (not just winning the Swedish Eurovision Song Content aka "Mello"). In Turku, they have developed a structured program for working with families in the #NICU, called Close Collaboration with Parents.

Check out this inspiring interview on @99nicu with one of the initiator, Sari Ahlqvist-Björkroth.

And at the end, info about their free (as in free!) conference about the Close Collaboration program!

Read this paper ”Experiences of adults born extremely preterm” and found this interesting paragraph at the end, that they researchers used AI to refine the text. First time I have seen this declared openly, and I think (with broken non-native English!) that this is just fine :)
