It is very cool to watch culture change in ways like this. We see languages that speak slower or faster than English, and something made them that way. It seems like maybe English is speeding up.

I have a pet theory —and the next couple of seasons will bear this out— that maybe in 2007 the core aesthetic of the 90s was wearing thin but no one was sure where the train was headed next. Could be poofy sleeves, who knows, let's try it and tell each other it looks good, see if it sticks.
(As a person living in the 00s, it really did seem like clothing was just further developments on 90s ideas, but I was and am no means an expert, and at some point I was no longer the target demographic.)
There's also quite a bit of huge sheets of fabric just draped over models like they're furniture that the judges are fangasming over.
2007 seems to have been a terrible year for fashion. I'm not sure I can make it through this.
There are looks where I'm like, I would wear that.
Then there's looks where I'm like, great job, looks great but I would not wear that.
Then there's, I see what you're going for but you missed the mark.
But poofy sleeves in earth-tone plaid, I simply do not want that in my eyes.
Huge poofy sleeves in earth-tone+pink plaid with black frill along the collar is one of the top looks in S4E1, and in the next ep one of the designers has poofy sleeves on a darker shade of beige.
I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to fashion, but unless it's 1892, that's not ok.
