Evan Kline

Still have my geek card, I think. My posts are often about tech, automation, skiing, photography, and Philly sports (Phillies and Eagles mostly). About me: Trial lawyer, and geek behind 40tech.com.

@charliemchapman Nooooooo….! Loved it so much on my old iPad Pro that it was an instant purchase on my next.

@filmfreak75 @agiletortoise Another attorney wanted to send me someone's medical records via email once. After I pointed out the problems with that, his response was, "Oh, that's OK. Our email server is very secure."

@ptujec Ah, thanks! I wasn’t aware of that.

@ptujec Thanks for this, and for the info! Are the sfl2/sfl3 files just a log of the recent files, so there's no downside in running this script, I presume?

@ptujec Did you notice any issues with the "recent files" functionality after 14.1 (the feature where you can type an app name, and then right arrow to see that app's most recent files)? It works in some apps, but now doesn't work in others for me, such as Pages and Scrivener.

@rod Yikes. I kind of use that as an app launcher, putting different sets of apps on different faces.

@podfeet My incorrect vote was to signal. Really, though, it depends on the circumstances, such as time and distance.

@podfeet Is there an option for "I accidentally tapped an answer as I was scrolling and now it won't let me change it?" (One of the many problems of touch screens, I guess)

@hypercritical Pretty much any movie or book where the law comes into play. Read a Greg Isles book recently where the main character’s criminal trial occurred a few weeks after his arrest.

I get that it’s expensive for Comcast to roll trucks, & that many problems are with a user's own equipment, but with pretty much every interaction I've ever had with Comcast, the impression is that the sole job of the agent is to get you off the line, and they only want to create the illusion of tech support. (And, for what it's worth, I've had Comcast roll trucks about 3 times in the last 5-7 years, and every time they found an issue outside the home, in the neighborhood, that fixed our issues)

A tale in 4 parts, part 4 (paraphrasing):

Me: "How much longer can our neighborhood expect these daily outages?"

Comcast: "I've checked with our backend team and you won't face any inconvenience in the future."

Uh, thanks?

(I left out his attempts to sell me their mobile phone service)

A tale in 4 parts, part 3 (paraphrasing):

Me: "Did you actually fix something?"

Comcast: "Rest assured."

Me: "Well, then what was causing the neighborhood outages?"

(Long wait)

Comcast: "Improvements to our 10G services in your area. And here is a credit to your account for your troubles."

A tale in 4 parts, part 2 (paraphrasing):

Me: "Is my neighborhood's problem fixed? I suspect when I tell my neighbors that the fix for the neighborhood's problems was to restart my home's modem, they will be very doubtful."

Comcast: "Please ask your neighbors to contact us."

A tale in 4 parts, part 1 (paraphrasing):

Me: "Hi, Comcast. We've been having frequent daily outages in our neighborhood. I confirmed it is not just my house."

Comcast: "OK, I just rebooted your modem for you. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

@podfeet (But that wouldn't solve your keyboard issue, as Typinator is Mac-only)

@podfeet I loved TextExpander, too, but it seemed like it was getting slower in the last year or two, and if you don't use the team features, the subscription was pointless. I switched to Typinator, which is a good Mac citizen. Switching made me realize just how slow TextExpander had gotten.

@ljpuk I have Threads installed but peek in for a very seconds only every few days. For me, it’s more social media fatigue. I found myself not popping into Mastodon much, either. Ironically, with less traffic here now, I’m recently finding it easier to hop in and out and feel “caught up.”

@ljpuk For an extremely casual fan like me, who hasn’t read any of the material, the prior wave of movies all used characters known even to non-fans. Now they’re moving on to less-known characters that require a bit of an investment that the casual fan might not be willing to make.

Apple: Here's how to get close.

The background music during the WWDC keynote is drowning out the presenters. I supposed it could be my Studio Display speakers, but shouldn't Apple have tested for that?
