@janwwbosch @gavreilly Oh they are just randomly putting it on accounts now - presumably to prevent the #BlockTheBlue campaign. BBC news is unlikely to be paying for blue (or they'd be paying for the gold one not the blue one) so yeah this is twitter being twitter 2.0

@thedarktangent @jtk @olaf also means you need the API because you can't scrape. He hasn't considered that easy access to this made twitter relevant to news cycles.

@stopthatgirl7 also hilarious that he once complained that the #checkmark was a “lords and peasants system”. Nothing screams lords and peasants more than the "king" anointing some favourites with the blue tick. I can't wait for the acolytes to get in a twist trying to explain how this is different and acceptable.
