@Erich Ha, I must admit you got us. I use that phrase extensively in patron comms and feel like Old Ben every time. I also cannot resist deploying the occasional "Good News, Everyone!" for internal comms. =)
overjoyed and grateful to be the director of your Ann Arbor District Library!

Aw, thanks so much for saying so. We are having a hot time in the old town this summer!
As the August 5th election nears, we've been getting a lot of questions from patrons who have heard or read false claims about Proposals A&B. So, we've put together this page with the false claims we've heard and the facts that refute them:
Please share and tell your friends and neighbors!
As of this moment, barely a week into #summergame 2025, 2,025 players have already found me and entered the 1000-point code from my shirt to earn the FINDING ELI badge! You've got all summer to do it, so stay tuned to the badge page (updated on Fridays) to know where to find me!
I went to the Ann Arbor District Library’s comic convention this weekend and every time I go, I get so excited about comics. They’re the best! This and my local zine fests are the things that always get me into comics again and I think part of it is that they’re so focused on how anyone can make comics

#summergame at Ann Arbor District Library is off to a RIP-ROARIN' start! It's only day 3, and we've already had over 500 lawn or library codes created.
You've got all summer to find me & the 1000-point code on my shirt: https://aadl.org/findingeli
This summer is already shaping up to be the biggest yet. THANKS FOR PLAYING!
Big thanks to Molly and Jessica for having me on Ann Arbor AF to talk about why it's time for a new Downtown Library, all that it will bring to our patrons, and AADL's plan to build an awesome new Downtown Library with housing above! Give it a listen:

Just 4 tiny LEGO plates; that's all you need to start your own model of Your Dream Library.
This August 5th, Ann Arbor voters will be deciding whether AADL builds a new Downtown Library with housing above on just its current site, or if the surface of the parking lot next door is added to the project.
Show us your vision for a new dream project spanning both sites! Here's my blog post about taking your idea to the next level, including LEGO and Minecraft instructions:
@murph That's great feedback; we're hoping it would be much more than that, and the application asks about their plans here. But we are also hoping that this opportunity can include people with other employment or childcare challenges, so we wanted to start low.
AADL is proud to announce a new opportunity for the community. Applications are now open for the Downtown Library Lobby Shops: small, short-term, very inexpensive downtown retail space inside one of the busiest buildings in Downtown Ann Arbor. Apply by 6/1!

Evan, who runs Gear Lords, and myself were interviewed by A2 Pulp about the local hardware music scene, Gear Lords, and the Ann Arbor Bleep Bloop Collective.

I'll be moderating this panel on Friday about Gamergate and its role in normalizing internet harassment featuring the author David Wolinsky, and Adam Saltsman (Finji, Canabalt).
Please join us, it'll be... fun?
Read more about David and his book on PULP: https://pulp.aadl.org/node/641107

If you missed the live episode of Judge John Hodgman from Maximum Fun that was recorded at the Downtown Library last fall, it's now posted for your viewing pleasure! Come for the squabble over Dad's Lion Ring, stay for the reveal of Dad's age. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqTb-kYN1yM
@jessamyn we've heard that NLS and BARD are not (yet) under threat, but there's just so much that IMLS does. And it costs so little. Really undermines the whole "efficiency" rhetoric to go after this, not that it matters.
With what's happening at IMLS, we've been getting some questions about how this might impact AADL. While we don't receive any direct federal funding, once I started writing about all the good that IMLS does, I couldn't stop. So here's 2500 words on what IMLS does for us all. https://aadl.org/whatIMLSdoes
#AnnArbor #Photography friends, have I failed lately to gush enough about Eck Stanger, the legend lensman for most of the Ann Arbor News's history? And shoutout to AADL @AADLeli for keeping his legacy alive https://aadl.org/node/368328
I'm looking forward to giving a talk this Wednesday night at Evening with OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) about what's going at AADL. The short answer is A LOT! but I'm going to try to cover a hearty slice.

Unfortunately, due to an issue on the City of Ann Arbor's fiber ring, aadl.org is down, and library services may be widely interrupted at all locations come 10 AM tomorrow morning. We don't have a timeline right now, but stay tuned to our social channels for updates. We're sorry for the trouble!
@csalzman Yeah. Looking like we're not likely to be back by morning. SNAFU Royale...
