Aira at the 2025 NYC Blind Travel Foundation Media Weekend!

Aira is proud to sponsor the 2025 Blind Travel Foundation, providing visual interpreting minutes for grant winners' travel projects. We joined grant winners, co-sponsors (Two Blind Brothers & Feeldom), and the BTF team for a weekend of connection and exploration.

A highlight was a tactile tour of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, enhanced by Aira's geofencing for free visual interpreting and AI. The tour brought exhibits to life through visuals, textures, and an amazing guide.

We're excited for our third year partnering with this impactful organization and eager to follow upcoming projects, including an accessible outdoor guide, a blind music education podcast, and a video series on blind history. Learn more: blindtravel.org/

@simon @hallen We recognize the continued frustration of those outside of the U.S. Our team consistently advocates for expanded access including pursuing international Access Partners and passing along feedback when major launches are limited. We want to see access as far and wide as possible.

When it comes to projects involving partner companies, our team is required to adhere to specific communication guidelines and is limited in the shaping of certain pieces of content (ie. the google form), what we can share, and how we can share. We know the eligibility was not highlighted and we will pass along that feedback to our partner for consideration in future messaging.

The first page of the form lists eligibility. On the second page of the form is stated "At this time, the Aira Trusted Tested program is only available to US residents. However, by signing up, we can contact you if the program expands. You can also opt-in to receive marketing from our partner company Aira, about this program or others."

@alexchapman Our current geographic limitations do apply. We do, however, encourage even those outside of geographic parameters to apply to showcase the global demand and support advocacy for future expansion.

@jscholes @FreakyFwoof @CallumStoneman For our current AI image chat, you can have an Interpreter Verify the description if you request it, in app. For our newest launch, Aira AI powered by Project Astra, each interaction during this phase will be observed by a human Visual Interpreter for safety and corrections, as needed to complete a task.

2025-05-22

@Jage @DavidGoldfield Thanks for catching that! We're passing along your feedback to the Google team.

2025-05-22

@CallumStoneman We don’t currently have a confirmed timeline or guarantee for the expansion of this program. However, our team is hopeful about that possibility. The more we can raise awareness and demonstrate the demand—especially by showing how many people are interested in seeing it available in other countries—the more we can help influence its potential growth. For this reason, we encourage you to sign up for the program and share as far and wide as possible!

2025-05-22

@FreakyFwoof @CallumStoneman We also highly recommend that those outside of the eligible locations still complete the form. It's the best way we can communicate the demand to the Google team and advocate for expanded access!

2025-05-22

@jscholes @FreakyFwoof @CallumStoneman We know AI can hallucinate often. We're focused on safety with this product and every AI session is observed by a human Visual Interpreter. They will step in, if needed.

@hallen @simon The more people who show interest, the stronger the case we can make for expanding access. We encourage you to sign up and spread the word far and wide. Every voice helps shape what comes next!

@simon @hallen We know limited access is frustrating. The stronger the case we can make for expanding this feature, the more likely future versions will include more areas. That’s why we encourage you to sign up and spread the word far and wide, even to those who aren't currently eligible.
