Put together a box of ornaments for each grandchild with the ones they made when they were little and a few my mother made. They help me decorate my #Christmas tree now and will inherit them one day.

AMA Delegates Support ACA Subsidies for Undocumented Immigrants

The Alarming History Behind Trump’s “Bad Genes” Comments - by Daphne O. Martschenko | The Hastings Center https://www.thehastingscenter.org/the-alarming-history-behind-trumps-bad-genes-comments/
In response to a great article about language barriers as a public health issue, I discuss the elephant in the room - that the anti-immigrant political environment can make pointing out inequity dangerous. In a blog post from 2012, J.D. Vance, then a law student at Yale, criticized the Republican Party for being “openly hostile to non-whites” and alienating “Blacks, Latinos, [and] the youth.”
Four years later, he asked his former college professor to take down the post, titled “A Blueprint for the GOP.”

We academics often complain about the proverbial "Reviewer 2" in the blind peer review process. Reviewer 2 not only hates your paper but generally misses the point and makes criticisms that are impossible to address. But I just want to say that it was a pleasure to be Reviewer 1 on a paper and open an email this morning to see that the editor had accepted that paper and not let Reviewer 2 sink some pretty decent work. #shitacademicssay #gratitude
My takeaways from night #2 of the #DNC: (1) #Emhoff' gave the most important speech of the night. He did a great job humanizing his spouse VP #HarrisWalz (2) The rockin' roll call and the visual created by linking to the Milwaukee rally continues to build the image of a joyous movement that goes well beyond the United Center and invites people to join in. (3) Presidents Biden and Obama are now the speakers at the afterparty for the faithful - not in primetime. #harris2024
My takeaways from night one of the #dnc 1. AOC will be a serious contender for the presidential nomination next time the Dems have an open contest. 2. Hillary Clinton is really quite a good speaker when she can be herself. 3. The country will soon fall in love with Gwen Walz. Watching her get emotional during Hillary's speech was quite compelling.
It's virtually impossible to improve on the powerful image of the Olympic athletes marching into the stadium under their flags. Having them instead wave while taking ferries to nowhere is, well, not a very good idea. #Paris2024 #Olympics

Nice article by the great Maria Sacchetti about what President Biden's action might mean for some of our longtime friends and neighbors. Includes mention of our Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine student Sullibet Ramirez and how employer sponsorship can help. #daca #HereIsHome #HereToStay

Ethicists Can Proactively Prepare for AI Systems
"“A human will always be best suited to facilitate conversations that support ethical decision-making for the patients we serve.”"
Wherein I warn about technosolutionism, promote the language of “augmented intelligence”, and remind folks that great caution should be taken when utilizing generative AI in the context of clinical bioethics. https://www.reliasmedia.com/articles/ethicists-can-proactively-prepare-for-ai-systems
Day 1 of #2024CHA. Connecting with great colleagues like @michaelmillerjr in San Diego. Today presenting on prepping our hospitals to keep our immigrant patients safe and cared for should we face new hostilities post election. #medmastodon
@thibaultmol Here in the US, many locales throw all their recyclables into the same bin and they are sorted at a center by workers. The sorters can hurt themselves on the blades.
There's an article in today's WaPo about ditching cartridge razors in favor of the old fashioned safety razor. You avoid unnecessary plastic use for the environment. But, it makes the recycling of the blades sound cumbersome. If you made this switch, what do you do with the blades? Thanks in advance for any insights.
