@nikki That reminds me of this little beauty from Viz. 😛
The year is 1984. I was 14, in the third year at secondary school. Too old to think of myself a child, not really old enough to be very concerned about other adult-y things.
So pop music was my life (well, music and ZX Spectrums if I'm being honest). And although I've heard it said that the music that you loved when you were 13 or 14 is the music that stays with you forever, I truly think that 1984 and 1985 were hugely important years for British pop.
Imagine my delight on discovering this on sale at the local newsagents. It's as if the "1984 Smash Hits Annual" and the "Number One 1984 Annual" and the "Top of the Pops Review of 1984" all got together and had a lovechild, with the added benefit of 40 years experience / 40 years rose tinted glasses (delete as applicable).
I think I'm going to save reading this for Christmas week, to really do it justice.
TIL George Michael's ''A different Corner" was the first British No.1 hit song on UK chart that an artist wrote, sang, arranged, produced, and played all the instruments on the song all by himself.

Talking of which, there's also an "Electric Avennue" (sic) on there but this has to be the WORST cover version of ANYTHING, EVER. https://open.spotify.com/track/7LmEdRnCX8mOJqULLaOiTB?si=4982d0fdf15b4285
Just been alerted to the Eddy Grant "Killer On The Rampage" album now being on Spotify which means I Don't Wanna Dance/Electric Avenue/War Party/etc. are finally on there. "Gimme Hope Jo'anna" has been on Spotify for a while courtesy of a compilation album but nothing else is there...yet. https://open.spotify.com/album/3nih92b0hoXWibXPikJPNo?si=8TvzjYPaQsu_RJYM0NHwoA&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A3nih92b0hoXWibXPikJPNo&nd=1
Dreaming Of Me's basically Depeche Mode playing with their keyboard but you can tell they're going to be successful #Forgotten80s
La Femme Accident's quirky but very compulsive #Forgotten80s
Not really #Forgotten80s either but it IS Beatles fortnight. Forgotten hit Lennon 80s singles are usually Watching the Wheels/Nobody Told Me/Borrowed Time...
Anything but forgotten! Especially if you've listened to Smooth Radio #Forgotten80s
This Thompson Twins single makes me feel sad because it was their last Top 40 single I think? #Forgotten80s
Icehouse!!! LOVE THIS. #Forgotten80s
Personally prefer The Thompson Twins 😀 #Forgotten80s
Am I listening to #Forgotten80s because the tunes I've heard so far are definitely not forgotten even if not crap!
This almost sounds like Paul Young, but isn't. #Forgotten80s
Definitely a 'specialist' club favourite. #Forgotten80s
There better be Nik Kershaw later on. Also Track 9 on CD Three of the Now Yearbook '85 Klaxon #Forgotten80s
Wunderbar! Wunderbar! etc. #Forgotten80s
Unfortunately nobody can afford the Ghost Train ticket nowadays. #Forgotten80s
