Have all the #AIOps vendors just been posing this whole time, waiting for the real deal to show up and show them up? Or was IT Ops the OG AI playa?

An upcoming executive event I'm hosting for BigPanda this Thursday had me thinking about the real role of #AI in #IT Ops and what this all means for IT leaders. So I did a little pre-gaming and wrote this piece.

Check out the article and let me know what you think.

Thread (5/5): Remember, the true essence of the digital experience is always rooted in execution, consistency, and reliability. These will always be your safe bets to help your customers compete in these turbulent times.

Thread (4/5): So whichever side of the table you’re on, it’s going to come down to a focus on the fundamentals. If you’re an enterprise exec, the focus needs to be on those initiatives that will reliably move the ball forward — this is no time for retrenchment. Continue to modernize and invest in the experience. Those investments will reap exponential rewards.

And if you’re a tech company, it’s going to be about delivering on these fundamentals and less about promised sexiness.

Thread (3/5): Anecdotally, most laid-off tech talent seems to be rapidly finding new jobs, often with a raise to boot.

As I speak with enterprise executives, there’s definitely less frothiness and a tad less urgency, but the fundamentals haven’t changed. Technology is still the great driver of innovation, differentiation, and the experience — pulling back from technology efforts is a sure sign of future demise.

That said, the threat of a recession seems to be leading to less risk-taking.

Thread (2/5): Still, these announcements don’t seem to indicate a significant shift in enterprise tech spending.

The common thread in these two big layoff announcements (and they are big!), plus past layoffs from Meta and others, was that many tech companies were overzealous in their pandemic hiring and left themselves ill-prepared for a potential downturn. And, the job market — particularly in tech — remains strong.

Thread (1/5): Do today’s big layoff announcements at Amazon and Salesforce represent a broader issue for the enterprise tech space?

In a word, no. At least, that’s not what I’m hearing or seeing.

I think there’s a general wariness as we all watch for signs of a potentially forthcoming recession (and whipsaw our heads like we’re watching a tennis match as various prognosticators predict that we’re headed for one and then that we’re not!).
