Very happy to see my interview with Vox magazine out now! It was a fun interview where I tried to explain how simple robot behaviors are often a result of the interplay between many AI systems working together.

📢New Paper Alert! 📢
Two of our papers are now published online in LNCS.
Both hold special significance for me!
📄 Paper 1: The final project of my PhD (all chapters now published!) Explores which regions of a face are sufficient for perceiving robot emotion expressions. 🔗 https://tinyurl.com/FaceRegion
🤖 Paper 2: a project I remotely supervised with bachelor’s students in India. A robot librarian system developed & tested in an Indian library. Proud of their work! 🔗https://tinyurl.com/RoboLibrarian

Very happy to see our recent work featured in @PsyPost!
In this work we leveraged an LLM to generate real-time emotions on a robot during an interaction. On evaluation, it was found that appropriate emotional expressions by a robot not only had a positive influence on the overall interaction experience, but also increased task performance.

Very happy to see this research drawing such attention!
Understanding what a robot is conveying is crucial if we plan to have one in our homes in the near future. One way is for the robots to express emotions, but it is challenging to generate these emotions in real-time which are both context appropriate and well understood by humans.

@Riedl it was waiting to happen eventually. What worries me is that there seems to be no guidelines or regulations that bar anyone from doing so? Doesn’t matter how noble the purpose is, once you cross that door, there is no turning back.
Hello! 👋 I am a PhD fellow working at Furhat Robotics, Stockholm.
My research is on modelling & automating conversational non-verbal behaviors on Social Robots and studying their effects on HRI.
I am specifically looking into gaze behaviors now. We recently published a study on automating conversational gaze behaviour of social robots: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9900740
I would love to connect with researchers working in the field of #SocialRobots #HRI 🤖🤖🤖
