Feeling Confused!

Feelings are strange and confusing things.

They have no physical form but they can twist your guts around until it feels like they re going to snap in two. They can make you feel like you have butterflies floating in your stomach.

They can make you feel as light as air and as fast as the wind, or they can make you feel lower than a worms belly and like there’s no reason left to be.

You can control your emotions, well, you can bury them at least. That’s not the same thing I know. I know if you bottle them up they’ll eventual overflow and explode. But sometimes that’s what needs to be done.

Sometimes I wish I had no feelings. Life would be so much simpler. Everything would be efficient, analytical, cold and uneventful.

My life is not like that… Never simple and certainly not uneventful. Still emotions can hurt, but are they worth giving up just to avoid the pain? Is lack of pain worth the lack of joy and love?

I don’t know.

Herbie Rides Again!

Everybody remembers the Herbie movies, don’t they? That little Volkswagen Beetle racing around the countryside with a mind of its own, getting into all kinds of adventures.

Well, it looks like Herbie might have some competition for being the most emotive car out there, at least if Kenji Mori, Naoto Kitagawa, Akihiro Inukai and Simon Humprhies of Toyota have anything to do with it. They’ve patented a design for a car that can express emotions. Not strictly the cars emotions but the drivers.

In the patent, they describe a car with an antenna that wags, an adjustable body height, headlights that vary in intensity, and hood slits and ornamentation designed to look like eyebrows, eyelids, and tears, all of which could glow with colored lights to create moods and physical features.

The inventors believe these features on cars will make driving more entertaining. In the patent, they write that “as traffic grows heavier and vehicle use increases,

In the patent, they write that “as traffic grows heavier and vehicle use increases, vehicles having expression functions, such as crying and laughing, like people and other animals do, could create a joyful, organic atmosphere rather than the simple comings and goings of inorganic vehicles.”

“Such emotive, organic vehicles could also lead occupants to have great affinity for their vehicles, and make the driving experience more comfortable,” the inventors add.
