I'm not sure if it will work, but by making the update commitment I hope to give myself some urgency to focus more on the project.

If you have experience with concentration issues, I like to know how you deal with it, so you can work more productively. Other than that, I'd welcome you nag me if I don't provide updates on my project from now on.

2025-06-23

That being said, I didn't just want to post that there is no update here.
One of the ideas for projects I had was a game idea. Nothing special in particular and only as a personal project to try myself a bit in game development.

But instead of procrastinating on this, like with any other idea I had, I want to try to work on it and commit myself to give an update on this particular project every Friday. I'd like to have a complete game design finished at the end of this week.

2025-06-23

However, I also have been struggling with a long-time issue:
I have a bunch of ideas for projects I could have pursued. However, I struggle with concentration issues, which makes it difficult for me to stay focused on one project and getting through with it. It also doesn't help that I struggle with organizing myself to structure a bigger project.

This is not a new issue, but I haven't found a good solution to it yet.

Hello everyone following this account,
you remember how I said four months ago I want to work on some projects and post their updates here?

Well, turns out that didn't go to plan, now, did it?

This has various reasons. First, due to planning the next steps in my education and a death in our family I had my focus elsewhere for some time.

Introducing Refine 0.5.0, the GNOME Tweaks alternative leveraging the data-driven and composition paradigms. This version re-adds the Document font option, and renames "Middle Click Paste" to "Middle Click to Paste Text" with an accompanying subtitle.

Thanks to @CodedOre, 0.5.0 also adds the capability to rearrange the titlebar's window buttons. This new feature also lets you add the minimize and maximize buttons.

While we thoroughly tested right-to-left (RTL) direction and keyboard navigation with a screen reader, it's worth noting that we're no experts. We welcome feedback from those who use Refine in RTL and/or with a keyboard and screen reader.

You can get Refine 0.5.0 right now on Flathub.

If you would like to help fund projects like Refine, please consider looking at the donation channels at dir.floss.fund/view/funding/@t.

One of the first things I did now after completing my Bachelor:

For #Refine by @TheEvilSkeleton I have added a new setting, allowing you to freely arrange the window buttons to a layout of your liking.

The focus is on a new row, which shows a canvas with the possible window buttons, allowing them to be freely arranged.

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted an update here. Almost two years...

Since I've stopped the work on #NewCaw, I have concentrated mostly on university and struggling with my lack of concentration.
However, I have now finished my Bachelor of Science!

Since due to various reasons I will only start my Master of Science later that year, I have a few months in which I want to do a few projects to figure out a direction for myself.
So, hopefully I post a few more updates here soon!

Development of is suspended indefinitely.

@CodedOre was leading the rewrite, but is too busy with university commitments - mastodon.online/@CodedOre/1103
@ibboard was considering stepping down but hadn't announced anything.

Musk has killed Twitter as a platform, so NewCaw's original focus on multi-platform support is dead. There are other Mastodon clients available. The dev team don't have the time/interest to build another.

2023-05-19

I have been considering it for a while now and I think it's best to officially step aside from this project. I could assist if someone wants to continue the work, but I will not continue the main work on it.

2023-05-19

Hey everyone, just to update you on the situation with #NewCaw.

Since two months, I'm in a semester where I work full-time on a project in the university full time, meaning I spend pretty much each full weekday on it.
This meant I had not a lot of time to work on #NewCaw. Adding to that, I'm lacking the motivation to continue the work, as I'm not using Mastodon much at the time. Therefore, when I have time again for projects outside of university, I want to focus on a new one.

So, it's been a while since my last update, but now I have something to show again!

A bit ago I made a overhaul on the data class showing timelines, so we can make it more flexible.

One example for the added flexibility:
We now display pinned posts in the details page of the user!

An window of #NewCaw, which shows the User timeline of my test account. The first post in the list is marked as a pinned one.

@alexm Seems like it. Come to think of it, I knew of half of the examples you've shown, so it shouldn't have been news to me.

Anyways, I hope this doesn't sounded like I'm opposed to this. I'll probably will like it when I have used it for a while, as it does look better.

2023-02-19

@alexm @tbernard Thing is: current libadwaita teaches you that flat headerbars don't have scrollable content and that the whole window can be dragged. And if there is scrollable content, it was clearly marked as such. That principle is changed with this widget.

It may just mean that I have to adapt to the new principle and it will work. But having this clear distinction between header and content also had its benefits to clarity.

2023-02-19

@alexm @tbernard I have looked at the demo a few days back, and it is impressive what you have done. But I think we will have a re-run of the issue 213.

The flat headerbar is now completely invisible, unless you scroll a bit, so you can have misses if you try to move the window around. When the issue was first opened there was at least a border separating it.

In my opinion, the flat headerbar with scrollable content looks good, but I doubt its that usable.

Just before #TWIG, I finished initial support for displaying content warnings on posts.

It's still not fully as I like it, but it's already a good step.

@haeckerfelix I find it funny how it explains correctly that 2022 comes after 2023, just after having said in the previous sentence that the opposite is true...

A few things happened this weekend:

Besides a few fixes, #NewCaw can now show when a link you added to your user page was verified by the server.

And today, I was able to merge the work of @ibboard to like and repost the posts. First time #NewCaw has some interactivity!

I hope that I can add a few bigger things in the coming weeks.

A window from #NewCaw, showing my profile. Note that link to my GitHub profile is marked as verified by the Mastodon server.A window of #NewCaw, showing my last post. It was liked and reposted by my test account using the new repost/like methods added by IBBoard.

Since my term ended now, I'm planning to work again on #NewCaw.

I hope I can show something soon!
