A December sunset after a windy day.
Often posting about weather, climate, human behavior (because we’re so strange), things that worry me and things that should worry you, too.

“I have to say it’s a bit hard for me to look at the state of the nation − white households with 9-10 times the wealth of Black households; white men comprising 74% of Fortune 50 CEOs, white people being 90% of law firm equity partners, Congress being 72% male and 74% white − and think that white men are at a systemic disadvantage in our society,” said David Glasgow, executive director of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at the NYU School of Law.
White men urged to file discrimination claims in anti-DEI escalation
The most recent USA TODAY data shows that Black Americans are outnumbered 12 to 1 by White people in executive roles.
At the same time, White men are making strides in the corporate boardroom, eroding gains made by women and people of color.
It’s awkward being asked what I’d like for Christmas at this late date. I would love to be gifted with that thing that I don’t know how I lived without, but I don’t know what that thing is or I’d point you in that direction. 🎁

This wild burro was hanging out at the top of the cliff, keeping a close eye on me as I hiked. It was snorting very loudly, presumably to warn all the other burros that there was a human in the wash. I loved how the snorts echoed off the walls of the canyon, very effective warning system.
The history of the wild burros in the western US is pretty interesting. They were pack animals for the early miners; when the mine played out the miner would sometimes just turn them loose in the desert. Burros evolved in northern Africa, to them it felt like home. There are now thousands of them scattered over 5 western states. They're an invasive species, but so cute that the public outcry is huge any time population control is proposed.
Cutting UNL’s atmospheric sciences department will harm Nebraska
The move means the university system’s flagship campus will no longer be able to produce homegrown meteorologists and geologists — professions that monitor for severe weather and study groundwater, both of which are critical in a state where agriculture remains the economic backbone.
