This door seriously needs to be de-fragged

A stained glass door by architect Armin Bassbichler but actually made out of hundreds of 1x1 inch pantone swatches in multiple colors

@mhoye pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/271945 I know, my colleagues and I published a very similar study in in 2016. There might be something beneficial in the between-word spacing of the font. But the letter shapes don't have any positive effect. Cheers!

Born on this day in 1866, Beatrix Potter is beloved as the creator of Peter Rabbit. Unbeknownst to most, she made groundbreaking discoveries in how lichens reproduce and revolutionized mycology with her drawings of mushrooms t.co/kjTklrhCag

For the love of god can we stop anthropomorphising LLMs. No, ChatGPT did not "come up with an excuse" or "think about its mistakes". Gemini did not "lie about its reasoning" or "struggle to understand basic concepts". Grok didn't "decide to praise Nazis" or "express it's support for genocide".

They're mimics designed cynically to trick you into assigning them a humanity that they'll never have, and giving them false agency allows their designers and creators an innocence they don't deserve.

@stuffifound I asked my friend in Oz and she said this is from 2018 and caused outrage at the time bbc.com/news/world-australia-4

@fluepke lol. In Dutch that simply translates to 'dry forest'. Yay for the sometimes unexpected language differences.

@mira she's royal. Have you tried placing some left-over distraction cables not connected to the power. Or would Her Highness know the difference? :ablobcatbouncefast:

In our kick-off event, we want to do a little game/puzzle with our new first semester students. They are from computer science and data science study programs, but in general, they cannot code yet. We are now searching for ideas for such a game/puzzle that thematically is close to computer science or mathematics. (There are plenty of ideas for general team-building events, of course.)
The most problematic constraint: We have about 400 students. They are in groups of about 60 people (one per study program) which would give about 10 teams per group. Any game/puzzle -- especially if it uses analogue material -- has to scale up to these numbers. E.g. a maths-themed scavenger hunt across campus is probably not possible. And we really want to have a meat-space component instead of a fully online game/puzzle.

So.. Has anyone done something at that scale that is explicitly maths-/comp-sci-flavoured and can give me an idea?
