@alicemcalicepants, I try! I also may have been thinking of a corgi I met named Mr. Jelly. My brain probably thought
food name for dog = mr. food name
I finished my first brioche knitting project. It's a cowl made from Malabrigo Noventa yarn 🧶.
I took an online class in June from Darn Knit Anyway to learn how to do it. There are mistakes in it, but since it's for me, that's okay. Brioche knitting is really fun, and it makes such a plush texture.
@saraislet, also, cassette tapes are mentioned! Ancient technology!
@saraislet, ugh I know, right? That's definitely a possibility.
I'm editing a book about video games and the author discusses game soundtracks. He mentions that some of these soundtracks come in a "standard jewel case." Now, as a Millennial, I know exactly what this means. But my job is to consider the reader.
So I've edited this to "standard CD jewel case." But reader, let me tell you, I felt practically ancient when I added a note explaining that younger readers may not be familiar with CD cases.
Another instance of why having a human editor/proofreader is a good thing. I'm working on a video game book. Several Nintendo products are mentioned, including the Game Pak. When I later came across something called a Memory Pack, I said, "Hang on, should this be spelled as 'pak'"? It seems the answer is yes. Here's a Memory Expansion Pack for the Nintendo 64. I doubt an AI program would be able to pick up the discrepancy between Game Pak and Memory Pack. But a human editor definitely can.
@jpaskaruk I think there are goats who will happily eat poison ivy. I have no idea how you rent said goats. But with a goat, you don't have to worry about the cloud or processors.
Love getting argumentative/angry comments from AI bros that all technology is change, and that tech by its nature isn't good or bad.
If tech is built on stolen work, uses a ton of electricity and water, and produces glitchy/poor results, maybe it's not worth your vehement support.
@KnittingDyke, they were too cute to leave behind.
Please clap. I went to the yarn store yesterday to get needles for a brioche knitting class I'm taking online and I only bought one other thing: these adorable Highland cow point protectors. 🧶
Based on feedback from folks on Bluesky, I think this is a peony flower. Regardless of what it is, it's gorgeous. I really like the deeper pink inner petals against the lighter outer petals.
I don't want to delegate my creativity to a machine. Or to become so dependent on gen AI that I no longer have the mental flexibility to come up with ideas, and instead have to rely on the same topics that every other user now has.
It's not worth losing my voice to save a few minutes.

What bothers me about gen AI is that companies are pushing for users to do less. To think less, to write less, to create less. To care less.
Writer's block sucks. So does trying to find a good topic to write about. But fighting through it is what hones your mind and makes you a better writer.

Please enjoy this photo of a plump-looking chipmunk near a stone wall. This wall is in the garden of one of my neighbors, and they take such loving care of all their flowers. I've spotted this chipmunk (or a relative) by the wall a few times.
The recent interview I did for The Editor's Half Hour Podcast with Nadia Geagea Pupa is live!
I'm so excited for folks to see/listen to this episode. I talk about how I got into editing TTRPGs, the unique challenges I've faced, the importance of continuity, and how I approach my work.

This Sunday, June 1, the episode of The Editor's Half Hour Podcast where I'm interviewed by the awesome Nadia Geagea Pupa drops. I'm so excited for everyone to listen and/or watch it.
I often get questions about how I became a TTRPG editor; thus, I’m reposting an article I wrote last year about my journey. https://lnkd.in/ea-p-TP9. The second was for the Editorial Arts Academy: https://editorialartsacademy.com/2022/08/29/finding-work-as-an-rpg-copyeditor/.
While visiting my local coffee shop (I got drip coffee w/ a shot of maple syrup and a piece of cardamom coffee cake) I met Gracie. She is a gorgeous 11-year-old black border collie. She came right up to me and leaned against my legs for pets. Her person said that Gracie was helping him run errands.
When you don't take concrete steps to keep Nazis, homophobes, racists, misogynists, pedophiles, and the like out of your online spaces, you end creating a safe space for vile people and a sucky space for everyone else.
