This is hilarious. It appears that Twitter is DDOSing itself.

The Twitter home feed's been down for most of this morning. Even though nothing loads, the Twitter website never stops trying and trying.

In the first video, notice the error message that I'm being rate limited. Then notice the jiggling scrollbar on the right.

The second video shows why it's jiggling. Twitter is firing off about 10 requests a second to itself to try and fetch content that never arrives because Elon's latest genius innovation is to block people from being able to read Twitter without logging in.

This likely created some hellish conditions that the engineers never envisioned and so we get this comedy of errors resulting in the most epic of self-owns, the self-DDOS.

Unbelievable. It's amateur hour.

Logged back on to this site for the first time in week and 99% of my content is content from a single, very prolific account I follow. Maybe mastodon could use a little more algorithm?

A staunchly illiberal politician is ruthlessly pursuing his authoritarian agenda. Yet what the New York Times wants us to take away from the situation in Florida is that he’s taking on the “establishment” and successfully building “his brand.”

New gender just dropped

A "traveler information" form on United's website, with "Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner" in the list of possible genders.

Well it finally happened: I had to learn about endian-ness for work. I can still feel my brain resisting, hours later.

Partner is bedridden with the flu, baby recovering from flu, partner and I both have pink eye, the ants have finished (?!) a trap and thirst for more poison, our washing machine just stopped working while full of water and I am trying to stream data between two languages that handle time stamps differently.

The next day...

Third night in a row a skunk has spread its aroma right next to our bedroom window. I am this close to filling a squirt gun with febreeze and returning the favor.

Downloaded a random Anki deck on sql and it defines a relational database as "exists in a world 'pre-object-oriented'" and I've never thought of it that way. Defining tech by its historical context is one of the richest ways to teach, imo, and probably also one of the most under-utilized. Then again we are currently in the "learn programming in 5 days for a six figure jerb!!" times, so.

The Texas power grid “emergency” isn’t a freak phenomenon anymore. It’s so predictable you get set your watch to it. Grid breaks, price goes up. Sync.

Sending migrants to the VP’s house in freezing conditions is more important than fixing your grid to save citizens lives?

If you’re a blue dot in Texas then I feel for you. You’re being held hostage. They keep voting for evil

A wise old Texan had a saying:

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me…can't get fooled again!

Holiday technology fail: Zoom's noise cancellation filtered out 90% of my tiny nieces voice as "noise". Guessing this was never tested on children.
