I wanted to record a South African airport announcement for today's #AudioMo as I'm traveling.
There is a bit of general airport ambiance before the announcement happens.

I just left my childhood home for what may very possibly be the last time. My heart is breaking quietly in the back of this uber. I feel so conflicted, because I'm so glad I'm going back to people I love, and things I love to do, but holy shit it hurts. Like, it really hurts. And I keep telling myself I shouldn't be sad. I shouldn't feel this. It's ok, and it will be ok, and everything will work out as it should. But at the end of the day, I can't picture another house for my family. I can't picture another place we call home. And I will be very, very lucky if I come back to this one at all.
@bermudianbrit @Scott I cackled out loud. This is histerical.
@bermudianbrit Don't be rude. <3
hay UK blind folks: Anyone having issues with the JustEat app, they fixed the broken menu reading thing in the latest update just posted today. Go update and it should unfuck itself
The funny thing about all of this, was that - as of posting this - I hadn't heard this bird for months. Then today, I briefly did. And it felt like a sign. Everything comes back around.
Brioche has no right to exist. It's too sweet for a bread. Too dense for a pastry. And too bland for a cake.
@Bermudianbrit hey, this was the one where we both double tapped to end our respective recordings at the same time. It just made me laugh and I wanted to acknowledge that, because it was funny and I don't think we'll ever get that right again.
@Kaliah I'm not either. 😂
A few days ago for #AudioMo I posted a recording of a single bird and said I didn't know if I had the recording of the mating pair... But I do!!
I think this is particularly fascinating. The one bird sings an interval of (almost) a fifth, and the other does an approximation of the teeth kissing sound in some cultures used to express disdain, but it sounds so cute, I can't bring myself to make that association with anything other than a smile.
@Techgirl1232 It's hard for me to narrow down, as I don't speak it, but I've narrowed it down to probably Sipedi, Sesotho or Tswana. In a country with 11 official languages, some of which are very closely related, it's sometimes hard for people who don't speak them to differentiate them. :-)
@fesshole This grately amused me.
On a drunken evening when younger I scanned, photoshopped, and printed every picture in my parents' house. Gave my sister an extra finger, snuck Steve Buscemi into graduation photos, changed Grandpa's eye colour, etc. Took over a year for them to notice, and still some remain.
I was told during my work appraisal that the quality of my recent written work is testament to how much I've developed in my role. The truth is, writing erotic fanfiction and having a beta reader who gives thorough and constructive feedback is what's really made the difference.
@cordova5029 Aww, thank you. We were babies really but I thought this was cool. You so rarely hear recordings from right in the thick of it.
@KaraLG84 I know it was local, which narrows it down to 9. Then I know of at least one it is certainly not, and 4 or 5 it is likely not, which narrows it down to Sipedi, Sesotho, or Tswana. Not sure.
#AudioMo for today comes from 12-year-old me who was, at the time, experiencing her last ever school choir practice, though she didn't know it then.
Though this song isn't great - we're kids and sound like it - it was a lot of fun to perform. I'm not sure what it's called, but as so many international choirs see fit to perform African music, I thought I'd show you it as it sounds slightly more authentically.
Lots of 3 part harmonies, clapping, marching on benches, etc. Yes, there are off notes, and I'm sorry for the pocket rustling, It couldn't be helped.
So, this will be likely my last #AudioMo from paris, but on the friday morning, around at 8, across the street from our hotel, a delivery van driver was rather cheerily loading their van and whistling nicely. You can also hear cyclists, traffic, electric cars wizing by and at some point, a humming lady. Parisians like singing in the mornings apparently.
Pleased to see @fesshole reach 1k on Mastodon - it's tricky for us to build up followers here as we don't know anyone. If you can help by spreading us around that would be fab - and you'll enjoy it more too as Fesshole is best when replies are lively. Also follow @anon_opin for rotten opinions that are occasionally ok.
