In the next weeks we will see an intensification of attacks both on Zack Polanski & the Green Parties, as the Right media realise actually both GPEW & the SGs represent a real challenge to their man Farage delivering the country to the Far Right.

We can expect lies, distortion & extrapolations all intended to demonise the Greens, but given the new social networks the progressive left increasingly uses (like this one) unlike previous campaigns this one may be less successful.

@dysfun The "land" in question is about to become significantly more sky-like.

@ely_peddler Yup, the red light has gone out now, and it's about 40% faster than the old copper line (at least downwards).

It all "just worked", too, with no need for any faffing around - thanks @aaisp for not making me change any settings ;)

Ooh, shiny!

Challenge: can you show that if two lists are extensionally the same (ie, an element is in one iff it is in the other), then folding an associative commutative idempotent operation over one is equal to folding that same operation over the other?

It seems I can't do it without some sort of intentional knowledge on how to relate the two lists, or decidable equality of the carriers.

free software folks: what design/org patterns are there for publishing community software to mainstream app stores these days?

eg, is there an umbrella org/institution that publishes free software apps to the app stores, on behalf of community projects?

could be an org like ASF.

I'm not asking about alternative app stores, or alternative mobile OS. i'm asking about Google Play Store and Apple App Store for mainstream users with un-modified/un-configured devices.

A Welshman walks into a ‘Spoons.

Tells the barman he's got a great joke about Reform voters.

The barman tells him that he's a Reform voter, so are the 3 big guys at the end of the bar and the 2 woman sat next to him.

'So do you still want to tell it', the barman taunts him.

The man says. 'No. Not if I'm going to have to explain it 6 times"...

@humanhorseshoes @dysfun We often talk about how we have "domesticated" other creatures, but there's an argument to be made that it's actually grass that has domesticated us.

@whitequark My project at work right now will ship with Vivado, and my job for this afternoon is to add the licence checking to it.

Can I borrow some of your noises?

I promise they won't be too dirty when you get them back.

Customer: "Hey, we found a bug in your stuff. Here's a .pcap which triggers it. Can you fix it?"

Us: "Sure, we fixed it, and we added your .pcap as a test case!"

<repeat several times>

<years elapse>

Me: "This .pcap looks like a capture from a live network. Are we sure we don't have people's personal data in here?"

Project manager: "Oh. I never thought of that."

@m1rk0 Not long after people started migrating en masse from Reddit to Lemmy, I came across one that was about 220K.

I can't link to it because kbin.social has since gone down, but here's my original post about it: mastodon.social/@FenTiger/1107

In previous years, I published two "fediverse tech roadmap" posts:

- Fediverse tech roadmap 2024
- Fediverse tech roadmap 2025

However, I didn't publish such post this year because not much has happened in 2025. Many problems I talked about require complex solutions, but unfortunately proposed solutions are often very limited or lead to centralization. Or worse, there is no solution but only an imitation of work. I don't want to write about that.

I saw a thread today where ATProto ecosystem was compared to #ActivityPub. Things are happening in the Atmosphere, but not in Fediverse. MAU graphs are flat. What's going on?

There are multiple factors at play, but I think fake activity may be the biggest contributor. Trivial developments presented as breakthroughs. Features that already exist somewhere in Fediverse presented as new inventions. Vaporware. Specs written by people who have no idea how to implement them. Working groups that do nothing but meetings.

Real work is ignored, competent developers see that and quit.

We need to fix this.

For my part, I will continue to document #Fediverse development at @weekinfediverse. But this newsletter doesn't have much impact.
