I've been trying to articulate how I feel about Labour being so good on renewables & trains and so awful on trans rights, PIP, immigration & the benefit cap. And it's like ordering a meal and getting the best sides you've ever tasted, the chips are crispy outside and fluffy inside, the coleslaw is crunchy and delicious, even the ketchup's amazing. And the actual burger is a dog turd in a bun.

I think we need to talk about the real problem with immigration.

First a few people come here from somewhere and everything is fine.

But then shops open to sell them the food that they’re used to.

And then I learn what things are supposed to taste like and develop standards.

And then I can no longer tolerate the low-quality version that all the supermarkets sell because now I know how bad it is.

Immigrants: They make food shopping more stressful.

Is improving the economy and enriching our culture really worth that?

Today Melissa Lewis over on BlueSky pointed out that the font used in the infamous "You wouldn't steal a car" anti-piracy campaign was actually designed by Just van Rossum, whose brother, Guido, created the Python programming language (bsky.app/profile/melissa.news/post/3ln7hx5rhcj2v)

She also pointed out that the font had been cloned and released illegally for free under the name "XBAND Rough". Naturally, it would be hilarious if the anti-piracy campaign actually turned out to have used this pirated font, so I went sleuthing and quickly found a PDF from the campaign site with the font embedded (
web.archive.org/web/20051223202935/http://www.piracyisacrime.com:80/press/pdfs/150605_8PP_brochure.pdf).

So I chucked it into FontForge and yep, turns out the campaign used a pirated font the entire time!

A screenshot of FontForge opening a PDF brochure from the "Piracy is a Crime" campaign, showing that it is using the font XBAND Rough, an unlicensed clone of the font FF Confidential.

@callyral @grue don't forget disabled people. Cars are always touted as the solution for disability but there are *many* disabilities which completely remove driving as a possibility (blindness, epilepsy, many learning disabilities, many physical disabilities ... And generally being elderly, if we're honest) and car dependence leaves you entirely reliant on a chauffeur of some kind for any and every time you want to leave the house.

As someone who has been employed as a janitor I’m always struck by how the handwringing over the sanctity of gendered toilets never seems to consider the men who clean women’s loos and women who clean men’s loos. I suspect because cleaners are not considered real people.

[Muting as this has spread way out of my zone, but happy that it's resonating.]

@cryptadamist NB that rise in numbers in GB is still a loss of the EV market share in Q1 YOY, as EV sales rose by a *lot* this year. I think Tesla lost about 6% of EV share and .01% of overall share. smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/car-re

Treffendes Zitat zu Katy Perrys Ausflug ins All in Jeff Bezos Phallusrakete und die anschließende deutungsschwangere Inszenierung, dass dies „Frauen inspirieren“ soll…

"inspire women", but the women who already worked at NASA are *checks notes* getting fired and getting their bios removed from the site

@GinevraCat @CrimethInc the thing I'm finding hard to understand (from afar, who knows what I'd be like in the moment) is not the lack of violent response, it's the lack of pushback generally. People are giving him power he doesn't yet have. The martial law thing has been weird. "If we do x, he'll bring in martial law". If you do nothing, he doesn't need to see whether martial law would *work*.

The British Steel Scunthorpe debacle is a shining, no, flare-lit, no, stellar example of why... drum roll... critical infrastructure should be owned by the State and not by private companies.

This stuff is strategic. A foreign government should not be able to blow up such an important sector. People who've been saying this since Thatcher, have been derided as loony lefties.

Next, do water, energy, comms, military materiel, and transport.

17. Illegally giving citizens' private data to nefarious billionaire freaks
18. corrupt contracts for hurricane relief
19. corrupt contracts for COVID supplies
20. corrupt "loans" intended to reduce unemployment during COVID.

so that's 20 off the top of my head. some are broad categories that would include 50 to 100 counts each.
