@elaterite @mlanger Thanks for sharing! Who knew such a simple structure could have so much science behind it.
My quality control associate sleeping on the job again
@elaterite Thank you!
@treleanor Thank you so much! It was quite the undertaking
@ambivalena Thank you so much!
This was the most time consuming & in depth book repair I've done. I disassembled the book, steamed pages, repaired pages with tengucho paper, re-bound the book, & made a new casing. It was my first time doing a rounded spine, so that was a bit scary! There was quite a bit of spine swell due to old adhesive that I wasn't able to completely remove + my own oversight of thread thickness.

@ambivalena @elaterite Thank you! Your photography is beautiful
@elaterite Almost bit off more than I can chew!
Another before and after // this one took a little steaming to get them in better shape for re-binding

Day 21 of #SciArtSeptember prompt is reef.
This is a handprinted linocut of two ocean creatures with a mutualistic symbiotic relationship: anemone and anemonefish. Specifically it's a rose bubble-tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) and a clownfish (in the genus Amphiprion), also known as an anemonefish. Sea anemones protect anemonefish from predators, and serve as a safe nest. 🧵

A small before and after
A little moisture goes a long way to flatten bent pages
First post to Mastodon. Thought I'd share a book I've been commission to repair.
This is an old Bible passed down through the family and it has definitely seen better days. I'm using 3.5 gsm Haini paper to strengthen any parts of the pages that need it.
Don't be jarred by the scissors! They're for cutting my Haini paper ✂️
