(cont.) ~ very steamy scene in his office. They're both incredibly rough with one another. And to be honest, it's been coming for a long time. Afterward, once they've realized what's happened with the chip, Alexios won't talk about it. Trick visits Dante at his med clinic to get it fixed.

(Fun fact: It's the first time Alexios has had sex in about 150 years, so that's interesting.)

A bit of a spoiler for #TheCityOfOpulence but here we go. That's alright.

Alexios gets rather drunk in his club (the Apex Nightclub) one evening, and he ends up dancing with Trick. Unbeknownst to either of them, Trick's brain implant / chip (from being a sex worker) is malfunctioning and his putative pheromones are all over the place because of it. Alexios is a goner. The two start kissing, leading to a ~ (cont.)

‘Stop shouting at me. My head hurts. And weirdly, my hands hurt. Why have I got bruises on my wrists?’
‘I dragged you off the table to stop you singing.’
Beatrix forced herself to sit up. The world swayed, and she grabbed the side of the bed to stop herself from falling. She dropped her chin to her chest as her stomach protested the sudden movement.
‘Oh! I think….’
She ran to the bathroom and slammed the door shut. Some things were too awful to be shared, even with a twin sister.

Bella brutally dragged back the curtains. Knives of light slid around the edge of the pillow and sliced up under Beatrix’s eyelids. ‘You did, and not only that, you were very enthusiastic about it. Vair and Altair didn’t appreciate it, though. I think they were enjoying their champagne before you turned it orange in mid-swallow.’

@JessMahler that's fantastic for you! I'm so glad. I love writing description, I just find it gets in the way of the storyline in the initial drafting

@JessMahler I can't do the full immersion descriptions on the first draft, I go back in on a later edit, and ask myself the senses questions then.

#WritersCoffeeClub 9/3. Do writers read differently from non-writers?

I can only speak for myself, but after reading copious craft books, I find myself reading with a red pencil in hand. I can still get engrossed enough to be carried along by a really good book, but the middle range ones I used to enjoy as well, I edit on the go, which spoils the immersion.

Reading the first parts of the first draft when editing, and realising how it no longer fits with the later parts...
