Lemming continues her tightly crafted, fun, and funny series. I adore this universe where the stakes are real, and the problems look like our own with a satirical twist. I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoyed Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series and loves romance. She’s not quite to the deep lore, but neither were Prachett’s early books.

Als ich am folgenden Morgen durch die Helligkeit des Tages geweckt wurde, rieb ich mir erst einmal schlaftrunken über das Gesicht. Ich lag allein in dem schmalen Bett. Ein Blick in das gegenüberstehende – Minuelo lag nicht darin. Vielleicht war er schon nach unten gegangen, um zu frühstücken? Das Fenster stand halb offen und trug den salzigen Geruch der See hinein. Einige Möwenschreie drangen an mein Ohr, außerdem vereinzelte Rufe von Leuten, die unten am Hafen offenbar ihrem Tagwerk nachgingen. Ich rekelte mich ein wenig. In dieser Nacht hatten mich keine Träume über ein Wesen geplagt, das mich verführen wollte.

Hastig stand ich auf und zog mich an. Als ich nach meinen Stiefeln griff, fiel mir ein Zettel auf, der in einem der beiden steckte. Ich nahm ihn heraus und las die wenigen Zeilen:

Lieber Tylas,

es war schön mit dir gestern Nacht, ich danke dir! Ich muss schon los und wollte dich nicht wecken. In einem Monat kehre ich zurück nach Westerende. Aber ich vermute, dann bist du längst fort von hier? Wer weiß, wenn die Götter es wollen, sehen wir uns vielleicht wieder?

Verdammt. Ich hätte ihn zu gern noch einmal gesehen, wenigstens um mich zu bedanken und zu verabschieden. Hätte er mich doch wenigstens kurz geweckt. Zu schade!
