I'm enjoying The Northman, but honestly, my biggest takeaway is BJORK!!!

Eight words to cut in this abstract. The struggle is real.

This is belated, but I want Lizzie Caplan to narrate my life.

Current conundrum: if I pre-order the Prince Harry memoir, will I be able to resist devouring it until after the two writing deadlines I have next week?

@drreznicek I've been digging into this for a project, though later, around germ theory's advent (1860-90s), and the answer seems complicated!

Did you know that sloths look green because they grow algae on their fur? And that it's okay because the algae form a symbiotic relationship with the sloth, giving it important nutrients in return?

What I'm say is this: slow down a bit. Take a deep breath. Climb a tree. Eat some insects. Be constantly damp. Allow your body to become home to billions of microorganisms. It's good for you.

Photo of a sloth, hanging upside down from a green leafy tree, looking sideways. Its fur looks green due to algae growth.

Grades are in! And I am much more tired than I realized!

I'm looking forward to a few days off before digging into an article due in January and my spring course prep.

I have eleven more (excellent!) essays to grade, but of course, first I decided to procrastinate by cleaning out my fridge.

@nicolewolverton Mine is apparently surreal horror, which is pretty accurate! Although of course, putting texts into sub-genres can be just as slippery as writing astrological predictions.

@nicolewolverton Some fancy smart watches have Pulse Ox now! My Garmin watch has one built in. It's not 100% accurate, but it does in a pinch.

@borixon@sunny.garden 100%. I wanted to love it. However, I suspect that the translation to screen meant that we weren't "walking with" the main character in their disorientation and loss of identity in the same way as the book.

Will someone please talk with me about the film adaptation of "I'm Thinking of Ending Things" and the choice to lean *so* heavily into allusions to the film adaptation of Oklahoma? I loved the book, and I was mostly with this film until about the last half hour, where the dream ballet started. I get what Kaufman was going for, but I'm not sure it works for me.

@afamiglietti79 @aspatriarca The VVitch might be hard too. Though it helps understand all the Black Philip references around...

@afamiglietti79 @aspatriarca Definitely never watch it!

@aspatriarca @afamiglietti79 I'm affirming this choice, because I'm a pretty hardened horror fan, and there was a moment in Hereditary that made me actually scream out loud while I was alone in my apartment. And that's not even to get into the climax, which I sometimes remember with a shudder.
