Under capitalism, it's normal to let children go hungry, let banks force people out of their homes, let sick people die for lack of access to healthcare. But the idea that billionaires could just be less rich - not poor, not struggling, just less rich, is considered insane.

I don't want to work smarter or harder and I have zero fucking interest in either The Hustle or The Grind. I want to work the exact amount I need to afford a normal life, which used to be possible, and now apparently requires a podcast??

Phew, that spun people up on BlueSky

Comment: What I mean, it’s not any better if that war crime would have done completely by traditional decision making process.

Me: Sorry. Philosophical disagreement. This is the “don’t blame guns, they’re just tools” argument all over again, and frankly as a gun person, I’m over it.

LLM companies are a net drain on society, from lost jobs, ecological damage, art and educational theft, and now faulty data being trusted to bomb

I have been an AI hobbyist since the 90s and I have used machine learning effectively for 20 years or so, but these companies are enabling a quantifiable harm.

Would they have double tapped an elementary school without Claude? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe a human would have checked the data. They wouldn’t have had a layer of plausible deniability. The AI is a search engine and pattern recognition tool, and it doesn’t think or reason.

Under maritime law, particularly the principle known as the duty to rescue, there is an obligation for those at sea to assist individuals in peril, including drowning sailors. This is often referred to as the Good Samaritan Law in many jurisdictions

THE #USN let unarmed sailors drown after they sank their ship. #RCN exercises with USA ships. We should stop that, they aren't trustworthy

The Iranian warship that was sunk by a torpedo was returning from a joint exercise the #USA pulled out of on the last moment.

Per protocol joining ships were unarmed. Ships were unarmed
The murderers, #USN, knew they were unarmed, sank the ship and offered no help to the survivors.

#TrumpWar #Iran

Statement of ex-foreign minister
Kanwal Sibal @KanwalSibal.6h X

The Iranian ship will not be where it was if we had not invited it to talk part in our Milan exercise.

We were the hosts.

I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless.

The Iranian naval personnel had paraded before our president.

The attack by the US submarine was premeditated as the US was aware of the Iranian ship's presence in the exercise to which the US navy was invited but withdrew from participation at the last minute, presumably with this operation in mind.

The US has ignored India's sensitivities as the ship was in these waters because of India's invitation.

We are far from politically or militarily responsible for the US attack.
Our"responsibility" is at a moral and human plane.

A word of condolence by the Indian Navy (after political clearance) at the loss of lives of those who were our invitees and saluted our president would be in order.

None of these stressors can be "therapy-ed" or medicated away either. There is no mental health resource that currently exists that will alleviate these stressors.

Stress has a physical effect on the body. The housing crisis is a mental health crisis is a physical health crisis.

Lack of systemic protections for renters is making people unwell.

And the capitalist class has done this on purpose. To keep a significant portion of the labor pool exhausted and afraid so they can demand more and more.

This is not ok

@BigTittyBimbo we've already seen purposely restrictive platforms cause a dearth of technically competent folks. many kids who grew up using ipads & chromebooks in school don't understand file/folder structure, where to find things, how to use productivity software, and on and on.

i hear the same feedback from team leads a few times a month. and they're not "yell at cloud" or "blame everything on youth" people. the "only folks 25-50 years old know how to PDF" meme is disquietingly accurate.

You're paying AI companies a monthly subscription fee to be fingerprinted like a parolee.

I got bored and ran uBlock across Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini simultaneously.

Claude:

  • Six parallel telemetry pipelines.
  • A tracking GIF with 40 browser fingerprint data points baked into the URL, routed through a CDN proxy alias specifically to make it harder to block.
  • Intercom running a persistent WebSocket whether you use it or not.
  • Honeycomb distributed tracing on a chat UI because apparently your conversation needs the same observability stack as a payments microservice.

ChatGPT:

  • proxies telemetry through their own backend to hide the Datadog destination URL from blockers.
  • uBlock had to deploy scriptlet injection — actual JS injected into the page to intercept fetch() at the API level — because a network rule wasn't enough.
  • Also ships your usage data to Google Analytics. OpenAI. To Google. You cannot make this up.
  • Also runs a proof-of-work challenge before you're allowed to type anything.

Gemini:

  • play.google.com/log getting hammered with your full session behavior, authenticated with three SAPISIDHASH token variants, piped directly into the Google identity supergraph that correlates everything you've ever done across every Google product since 2004.
  • Also creates a Web App Activity record in your Google account timeline. Also has "ads" in one of the telemetry endpoint subdomains.

When uBlock blocks Gemini's requests, the JS exceptions bubble up and Gemini dutifully tries to POST the error details back to Google. uBlock blocks that too. The error messages contain the internal codenames for every upsell popup that failed to load.

KETCHUP_DISCOVERY_CARD.
MUSTARD_DISCOVERY_CARD.
MAYO_DISCOVERY_CARD.

Google named their subscription upsell popups after condiments and I found out because their error handler snitched on them.

All three of these products cost money.
One of them is also running ad infrastructure.

People of mastodon!

Super weird question, but ...

... is anyone out there conversant in Assembly for a 1960s-era IBM 7090, or machines of that lineage?

I'm working on an article that includes some Assembly of that vintage ...

... and want to make sure I'm describing what it does correctly

if this describes you or someone you know ...

... hit me up, I'd love to tap your expertise!

We need to break out this quote again #Iran

Marjane Satrapi
The world is not divided between East and West You are
American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we
talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference
between you and your government is much bigger than the
difference between you and me. And the difference between
me and my government is much bigger than the difference
between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same.

Tony has this to say about the attempt to change regimes in Iran by waging violence and warfare. page 4/5

Canada now faces a decision.
For decades, we have followed Washington into
military interventions. Each time being told they
were necessary. Each time, the consequences
proved more complicated, more tragic, and more destructive than promised. Mark Carney’s immediate support for this escalation shows how deeply that reflex still runs. Before Parliament has debated, before Canadians have weighed the risks, the Prime Minister has aligned with the military-industrial complex.
